We had the good fortune of connecting with ANTONIA LAWRENCE and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi ANTONIA, as a parent, what have you done for you children that you feel has had the most significant impact?
I am the mother of 6 amazing adult children. The most important thing I’ve done as a parent is to be a channel of God’s love to my children and to show them how important it is to Love God and love others. I tried to demonstrate this through my words and deeds that God’s love is the strongest foundation to build our lives on and the only way to find our purpose in life.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
What sets me apart is that I am “international” all by myself! I was born in England, my family is from Jamaica and I was raised in Canada. So some of my music definitely has that island influence. I have always loved music but it wasn’t until I went to college at Oral Roberts University did my talent in music begin to grow. We traveled all around the US and I learned a lot from some very talented and anointed people there. From there, I got married and had children but my husband and I continued in ministry and we starting leading worship for different churched but I also began developing my songwriting skills. We began recording and traveling all around the world, doing conferences etc. After a few years I began doing solo recordings…I have done a total of 5 recordings. Thoughout this time…I went through some very serious life challenges with family and children but through it all I saw the love and faithfulness of God in my life like never before. The greatest lesson I learned that the presence of God makes all the difference during a trial, it’s what brings you to the other side of that trial. My desire now is to help grow the music ministry of new and starting churches. To train and coach those who are involved in the worship ministry. I want the world to know how great God is and how important it is to stay connected to God through worship.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
The places I would take my friend to in Atlanta would be Aquarium, World of Coke, Callaway Gardens; Maybe a drive down to Florida to the beach. We would eat lots of seafood; drink great wine; Some fun things to do is to ride bikes; go to concerts; movies and the beach. The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Any success you experience…there is always someone along the journey that God sends to speak words of life and to love you in a way that matters. My biggest influence began when I went to Oral Roberts University. My whole life changed when I went to ORU. This is the place I found my calling and purpose in life…to encourage others through the power of music. This is where my relationship with God was strengthened and my musical talents were developed. We were given powerful opportunities to travel and to share the gospel of Jesus Christ. Being around talented and anointed people was so inspiring that it propelled me out of my shy and introverted personality into bold and confident expressions of the gospel through the gifts that God has given me.
