Meet Anita Yvette: Plus Size Model | Owner of MAYDAY Apparel | Nail Tech

We had the good fortune of connecting with Anita Yvette and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Anita, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
I’m a Plus Size Model . I’ve been modeling for 3 years now. The thought behind starting my business came from wanting to create another form of income initially. I started to think about what I wanted to sell and its not to many plus size brands that just carries active wear that can be worn not only for working out but to run errands in. I wanted to create something that made either a man or woman feel sexy and comfortable. I went back and forth with names until one day my manager sent me over a folder and the name heading was MAY. I asked her why did she name the folder MAY and she stated because of the initials of my name. I instantly loved it but I wanted it to be more. I wanted to bring life to a name or word that was intended to be bad or people use in distress. The next day I had the name of my clothing line MAYDAY. I’ve had MAYDAY for a year now and I am currently in the process of re-branding to release new products come summer. I recently started a nail business as named Princesse Nailz. The nail business came about because like every other women I love to get my nails done. The problem was I was spending maybe 60 to 100 dollars on my nails every 2 to 3 weeks. I got tired of paying someone for something that I’ve been watching someone do for years and wanted to do them myself.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I work for Inspire Brands in the IT department. I’ve been there a year. What sets me apart from others is I have a full time job and 3 businesses. It’s not always easy to balance them all and be a loving wife and mother but I make it look good. I am most proud that no matter the obstacles and mistakes I’ve made, I have never given up. I am excited about the re-launch of my clothing line., how with each week I get better with doing nails. I’m excited to get into nail school to become licensed and the end goal is to open up a shop. I’m excited to see where modeling takes me as I continue to update my portfolio. It has not been an easy road with modeling because I’m not the average height. In the beginning I was turned down for many opportunities, but I didn’t let that stop me. I continued to work on my posing and content and I’ve been able to work with some dope celebrity designers. The clothing line and nails are only the beginning. I’ve learned that you have to believe in yourself first. Understand that when creating a brand that sometimes the people close to you wont support you, but a random stranger will without any hesitation. make sure your brand is for them not your friends. Stay focused and have a plan. Invest in yourself and do your research. I would like for people to know that I am Anita Yvette. II am MAYDAY and I am Princesse Nailz. I am about empowering men and women and its nothing you cant do.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Breakfast places would be – Thumbs Up East Point Location Lunch would depend on what they have a taste for – Green Ginger, Rocky’s Pizza, Daddy D’s BBQ, Papi’s Dinner – Benihana’s, Longhorns, Texas Roadhouse, Annie Laura’s Kitchen, Lickety Split , The Capital Grille, Atlanta Fish Market Activities – Top Golf, Andretti’s, Movie Studio Grill, Sky View Atlanta , Daven Busters, Escape Room , Krog Street if she’s a model and wants some dope back drops for pictures, Six Flags (depending when she visit) I’m not really a club person but if she likes a nice mix of Caribbean and Hop Hop music then we would go to Jamerican Lounge
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I would first like to thank you for the opportunity to be recognized. The driving force behind everything I do is my son.. I want to provide him with everything that I had and more. I would also like to thank my husband and wife. They are always so supportive. They stay on top of me with ideas and ways to make my business better and how to be a better businesswoman. I can always come to them and express how I feel. Even when I dont want to hear what they have to say, I know that it’s all love and they only want to see me the best me.
