We had the good fortune of connecting with Angedith Poggi and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Angedith, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
After earning a Doctor of Health Science in Global Health and Education, I had symptoms of depression. Although it was a major accomplishment, I was unable to celebrate it with my family and friends due to COVID-19 pandemic guidelines. Also, earning a doctorate had no effect on my salary until six months later when I received a promotion. To cope with the depressive symptoms, I discovered a purpose for my life, which is to help individuals in achieving their academic and professional goals. My mission is to increase the representation of qualified Latinos in the academic and non-academic settings.

Starting a business was the best way for me to achieve my goal. I knew that starting a business could be as simple as filling out a state registration form or finding clients, but I wanted to create a successful and meaningful business.
Therefore, I completed numerous programs in order to learn effective strategies for building a stable and successful business. I designed a website, a social media presence, and a sales system to increase my revenue.

Starting my own business required purpose, planning, and execution.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
As an Academic and Professional Success Consultant, I help individuals, especially Latino first-generation students, achieve their academic and professional goals through individual sessions, infoproducts, mentoring programs, and workshops.

I am thrilled to be a resource for Hispanic students struggling to complete their dissertations. It is exciting to play a role in my clients’ academic success. I celebrate their accomplishments, such as receiving approval for their research proposal, defending their dissertation, graduating, and finding a job.

I have completed a number of mentoring programs to better understand how to start a successful business. Although I already have the passion and knowledge to help my clients, I need to be more strategic about getting new clients and supporting them, while working full-time.

It is difficult to manage your time when you are a full-time employee, a contractor, and a business owner. Focusing on my mission to increase the representation of qualified Latinos in the academic and non-academic settings keeps me motivated and allows me to continue giving my all to support my clients.

There are many ways to effectively start a business, but you must choose the one that best fits your mission and values. Implement strategies that may require you to step outside your comfort zone without jeopardizing your business.

I am deeply committed to assisting others and enjoy seeing others succeed. Sharing your knowledge matters. It is a way to selflessly help others.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Although I’ve been in the city since 2018, I am still getting to know my way around. I frequently receive visits from family and friends and enjoy taking them out. Tourist attractions are a must-see. I begin by taking them to Georgia Aquarium, The World of Coca-Cola, the Martin Luther King, Jr. National Historical Park, and the Atlanta Botanical Garden. We go to Piedmont Park for a picnic or a walk. Amicalola Falls is our destination for a hiking adventure. Then, we go tubing, try German foods, and ride the mountain coaster in Helen. Because Atlanta has so many restaurants, we try new places or anything that catches our eye on social media. I always encourage my guests to try anything with peaches (peach cobbler, peach pie, peach ice cream, peach cider, etc.). We enjoy going to the markets to buy local products. Finally, we visit the Chattahoochee Food Works for a variety of quick foods and the Third Spot for drinks and games.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Absolutely! Organizations like the Latin American Association and the Hispanic Young Professionals & Entrepreneurs (HYPE), a division of the Georgia Hispanic Chamber of Commerce have contributed to my success. Both organizations provide resources, networking opportunities, and mentoring programs to assist individuals in their entrepreneurial journey. In 2018, I relocated from Washington, DC to Atlanta for a job opportunity, knowing no one. Thanks to these organizations, I’ve been able to make meaningful connections while growing my business.
