We had the good fortune of connecting with Andre Greenwood and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Andre, what are you inspired by?
Atlanta first captured my attention in 1996 when I watched the Olympics as a young boy. But it was in 1997, when I had the chance to visit the city for the first time, that Atlanta truly inspired me—a place I now proudly call home. At 13 years old, I was in awe of a vibrant city that was led and shaped by people who looked like me. I was drawn to its rich sense of family, culture, spirituality, and its deep connection to the Civil Rights Movement. The warm and welcoming spirit of the people left a lasting impression on me, teaching me the power of a genuine greeting, a firm handshake, a kind word, and a heartfelt hug—simple yet meaningful actions that continue to resonate with me on both a personal and professional level.

After graduating from Florida A&M University, I quickly made my way to Atlanta. The goals I set for myself, coupled with the guidance of an extraordinary mentor, helped shape my journey. Ambassador Andrew Young became a key figure in my life, offering wisdom and accountability as I worked toward my vision. Throughout this evolving journey, one thing remained constant: staying true to myself. I embraced my authenticity as my greatest asset, something unique and irreplaceable that no one could replicate.

Following the principles of community leadership, I was honored to become the youngest Chairman of the Andrew & Walter Young Family YMCA. I’ve dedicated myself to serving underserved communities in Atlanta, where I’ve been privileged to make a tangible impact for more than 16 years as a board member and Chairman. In no other city could I call a Civil Rights icon, Ambassador, and former Mayor my friend and mentor. Through my work, I’ve had the opportunity to touch thousands of lives, whether it’s through affordable housing, education, mentoring, food security, transportation, health fairs, job fairs, or back-to-school events.

Above all, Atlanta is where I became a husband and father—two roles that are the greatest blessings a man can experience. My wife and I are committed to empowering our daughters to embrace their authentic selves, and within our household, serving others and supporting the underserved is not just a duty—it’s a way of life. I believe deeply in the principles of servant leadership, and it is this passion for service that has been at the heart of my success.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I am currently a healthcare executive overseeing a multibillion-dollar healthcare enterprise focused on serving government-sponsored healthcare programs.

With over 20 years of experience in the healthcare industry, I have successfully navigated the complexities of the insurance and provider sectors. My expertise spans Medicaid, Medicare, and health plan leadership, where I have played a key role in improving business models and driving positive outcomes. My mission centers on strengthening relationships with providers, communities, and partners to deliver meaningful impact.

Community service has been a cornerstone of my career. I have actively participated in initiatives such as food drives, mentoring programs, health fairs, career expos, and supporting HBCU scholarships and college readiness programs. Mentorship has also been a major focus, as I take pride in helping individuals navigate their career paths and reach their potential.

I am deeply committed to leaving a lasting legacy that empowers the next generation to achieve their dreams. I hold a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration from Florida A&M University and an Executive MBA from Georgia State University. My contributions have been recognized by accolades such as Atlanta Business Chronicle’s 40 Under Forty (2018), the Leadership Atlanta Class of 2022, Georgia’s 500 Most Influential Leaders (2024), and inclusion in Atlanta Magazine’s 2024 Atlanta 500 Most Powerful Leaders.

My passion for healthcare and service to underserved communities has driven me to build a career that is not only focused on professional success but also on making a difference by giving back and staying true to my values.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Atlanta is a city filled with rich history and incredible sights. If my best friend were visiting, here’s how I’d plan our time:

Day 1: We’d kick off with lunch at C&S Seafood, followed by a visit to the Black Man Lab for fellowship. For dinner, we’d enjoy a meal at Spice House Midtown, one of my favorite Caribbean spots.

Day 2: Spend the morning at the King Center and visit Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.’s home. For dinner, we’d head to Wagyu House Atlanta for a great meal and drinks.

Day 3: A day dedicated to giving back—volunteering at the Center for Black Women’s Wellness. In the evening, we’d wrap up with dinner at Sauce Buckhead.

Day 4: A well-deserved day of rest.

Day 5: A trip to the College Football Hall of Fame is a must. For dinner, we’ll head to Marcel’s, one of my favorite steakhouses in the city.

Day 6: We’d catch a game, whether it’s the Hawks, Braves, Falcons, or Atlanta United.

Day 7: End the week by attending service at Cascade United Methodist Church.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I want to take a moment to express my deep gratitude and honor my wife, Naima Greenwood. The majority of my achievements and successes are directly tied to her unwavering support and the invaluable motivation she has provided me—helping to build my confidence on a foundation of love.

Naima, my college sweetheart from Florida A&M University, is a distinguished C-Level Executive and an exceptional leader with a proven track record of consistent success. She inspires me daily and has ignited my passion to serve our community. Her dedication, compassion, and leadership have profoundly impacted me. As the mother of our two beautiful daughters, Ava and Aubree, she has shown me a depth of love I had never known before.

My professional journey is driven by the courage and conviction instilled in me by the teachings and support of my family. Their presence and love have given me the strength to fearlessly pursue and achieve my goals. I am forever grateful for the bond we share and the unconditional love they’ve shown me, shaping me into the person I am today.
