Meet Almasi Maluki

Today we’re excited to be connecting with Almasi Maluki again. If you haven’t already, we suggest you check out our prior conversation with them here.
Almasi, thanks for joining us again. Just to level set a bit for folks who may have missed our last interview together, can you briefly introduce yourself?
Hi there! I’m a versatile artist with a deep passion for photography as my primary creative outlet. I was born and raised in Nairobi, Kenya, and later moved to Atlanta to pursue higher education. I recently earned my Bachelor’s degree in Human-Computer Interaction (UI/UX) from Kennesaw State University—a journey during which I also gathered valuable marketing experience through internships and work opportunities.
My creative journey truly began in 2019 when I picked up my first camera, and since then, I’ve never looked back. In addition to photography, I work as a Freelance Web and Product Designer, offering a range of services that help clients unlock their business potential. I’m also intrigued by social media marketing, which further fuels my passion for visual storytelling.
After a brief pause in my photography during my final year of college, I returned with renewed energy and commitment—using that time to refine my skills and experiment with new artistic styles and editing techniques. Currently, I’m focused on portrait photography, but I’m also excited about venturing into product and brand photography to diversify my portfolio.
I recently relocated back to Kenya to be closer to my family and continue pursuing my photography career. Stay tuned for my upcoming website launch, where I’ll be showcasing my latest projects and offering all my creative services under one roof. I’m thrilled about what the future holds and can’t wait to share my journey with you!

Alright, so our main goal today is to give our audience an update on what you have been up to since our last conversation. We’d love to hear how things are going and what you are most looking forward to or excited about these days.
Since our last conversation, I’ve taken a bold step by relocating back to Nairobi at the end of 2024. It was a risk—stepping out of my comfort zone to embrace what life had to offer—and it’s been an amazing journey so far. Reintegration into Nairobi’s creative scene has been incredibly inspiring; the city is buzzing with talented artists who are constantly challenging and motivating me.
Lately, I’ve been immersed in various photo projects, and I even recently gave birth to what might be my favorite project yet—an effort that’s truly pushed my creative boundaries. In addition to that, I’ve founded a collective for creatives in Nairobi called Open Circle Collective. We’re slowly blossoming, and we’re gearing up to launch our featured artists soon. Be sure to follow us on Instagram at @opencirclecollective to stay updated on our journey.
I’m also excited about collaborating with local brands as a designer, helping them elevate and promote their unique stories. This phase of my journey has been a blend of risk, reinvention, and creative growth, and I can’t wait to see what the next chapters bring!

Life is often about tough choices – can you talk to us about your thought process, strategy or philosophy when it comes to making difficult choices or tradeoffs.
When it comes to making difficult choices, I always consider what will benefit me in the long run and what feels right deep down. I prioritize my emotional, physical, and mental well-being, ensuring that no decision compromises these vital aspects of my life. I think about the person I want to become and whether a decision will contribute positively to that vision.
Ultimately, I trust myself 100% to make the right choices, and I rely on God’s guidance along the way. Even when facing tough tradeoffs, I choose what aligns with my higher self—even if that means stepping outside of my comfort zone. This approach has helped me navigate challenges and continue growing both personally and professionally.
