We had the good fortune of connecting with Alina Hinton and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Alina, what role has risk played in your life or career?
The role of a risk-taker is one who approaches uncertainty with forethought and determination. As a risk taker, one must be open-minded, flexible and principled. Individuals who consider themselves as a risk taker work independently and cooperatively to explore new ideas, opinions and innovative changes and strategies. Being a risk taker causes one to be resourceful and resilient in the face of hardships and challenges.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I’m an event coordinator/planner. I take pride in knowing that each client is treated like “one of a kind”. During my initial planning meeting, I take the opportunity to get to know the client better. While discussing their vision, I typically ask questions to understand he/she as a person. I’ve worked extremely hard in this business to remain open-minded, kind and focused. As you work with others, you must be willing to learn how each individual responds to critical feedback, conflict and such. As my business continues to grow, I’ve learned that I must be willing to make changes in an instant to meet the needs of the client. Communication is KEY. Having the ability to communicate well with others and listen actively while others are exploring their own ideas and expectations is vital to the entire process. As a planner, I ultimately want things to turn out in which “we’ve planned”. However, sometimes that does not happen. But with the trust I tend to build with clients, we’re able to problem solve and find was to make things work. I’ve learned so many lessons on this journey. I’ve learned to keep respect, compassion and empathy in the forefront while working with vendors, clients and others. I’ve learned the importance of balancing different aspects of the business while staying assertive yet caring. I want the world to know that my event planning business is dedicated to celebrating the traditions and values of all walks of life. We are enthusiastic about celebrating all milestones of life’s journey.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I believe fun and excitement is what you make of it. I love food. Eating and having nice drinks is always a great way to connect with others and learn. I love conversations that are all over the place. For instance, I enjoy talking to others about life, love and history. Connecting over food and drinks helps bring the stress level down. People are usually relaxed and open to hear the opinion of others while endulging in good food. Some of my favorite places to eat are ANY Mexican or Authentic Hispanic restaurant. I enjoy Caribbean food also. If someone would like to go and dance the night away, I would suggest strolling through the streets of East Atlanta or even Edgewood.

However, a simple walk in the park is sufficient or eating a nice slice of Pizza from Grant Central in EAV.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I would love to shout out so many individuals. First, I would like to shoutout my mother and siblings for always being willing to encourage me to do my best. I would also like to shoutout my husband and sons for their unwavering love and support. I have a nice network of sister-friends and mentors who have truly inspired me to go beyond the possibilities that are in front of me.
