We had the good fortune of connecting with Alexis Riva and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Alexis, what’s the most difficult decision you’ve ever had to make?
One of the most difficult decisions I’ve had to make was to let go of comfort. God told me to leave a job and pursue the arts and entertainment industry. God told me I had to leave the space of comfort where I was getting a consistent check from and go all in what He’s called me to do. Now looking back, it was one of the best decisions I’ve made which was to be obedient. Since then, I have been able to minister to so many people who have sat in my chair for makeup and booked me for photography or project management gigs. I have been able to be more fulfilled in Christ and as an extension of that feel a sense of purpose and peace going through this journey of being a multifaced creative. Picking one thing when you have many gifting is also a hard thing, but when you’re anchored in Christ, asking questions and listening to the leading of the holy spirit, He won’t steer you wrong. You just have to drown out the noise of those around you, yourself, and listen to what God is saying you should do.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
My name is Alexis, I am a Poet and multifaceted creative at Creative Collection Studios, LLC. I do so many things such as makeup, writer/author, project management, photography, social media, and so much more. I’ve been writing short stories, film scripts, and poetry since I was a child. I have 10 years in the beauty industry as a makeup artist. I started self-taught and years later, I am now a certified MUA that is local and travels.
I am a creative that has learned the art of letting God lead and allowing Him into every space and place in my heart and decisions each day which resulted in me being able to know how to steward each season accordingly with each gift God has given to me.
Getting to where I am wasn’t easy. It was a bunch of doubt, pain, fear, and rejection that has been tied to what I felt called to do. The battle in my mind was so real, even when I was writing my poetry book Precious Moments of Solace. I really had to heal and let God speak and cleanse me. I am way better than I was but it’s still a journey everyday. I am not perfect, however, that’s where Creative Collection Studios, LLC came from. It was founded from a place of pain that birthed purpose. I help bridge the gap between mental health and the creative that has so much they want to pursue but knowing that in each step comes planning and execution. Allowing the creative to be able to dream one more time and believe that they can do all things through Christ which strengthens me.
Lessons I’ve learned during my journey are to not hold back your dream because you don’t know where or how to do it. The Holy Spirit is the best teacher and will walk you through things you don’t know or think you need to know to get where God is telling you to go and live in Christ but also go out and learn so that you can show yourself approved.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I would plan to go to a spa, an art gallery, a poetry show, or a concert, I would go to a coffee shop, or a rooftop dinner and I would also plan to go to church on Sunday.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I’d love to thank God, my mom and family, and friends who have been keeping me throughout my journey this year from being apart of my event, praying for me, and doing life with me. I am thankful for everyone that God allows into my space and life.
