“Still I Rise” from Maya Angelou’s poem titled the same, is an affirmation that I live by. I have even created a program for young Black girls that named I Rise. Still I Rise speaks to our natural resilience as human beings, particularly those who have live the Black experience. The phrase lets me know that nothing can hold me down. That no matter what, I can rise to live, to celebrate, to laugh, to win, to fight, to conquer whatever life presents.
