“We are what we repeatedly do. Excellence, then, is not an act, but a habit.” – Will Durant I’ve learned over time that the best thing anybody can do to improve in a skill or an aspect of their life is to develop discipline. That can be with anything from becoming a better pianist to building financial stability for oneself. People, including myself, often search for that one trick that will result in instant success or gratification. This quote helps me remember that the best way to obtain long-standing excellence as an artist and person is to build positive habits that give me the best chance of being my best self. Read more>>

In July 2006, prior to starting The Phoenix Community of Atlanta in September of 2007, I felt undeniably impressed by God to create a new church for a people who were the left overs and left outs. Feeling emboldened by God’s vision for me and and seeing a new and exciting direction for my 20 years in youth ministry, I set out to pour this “new wine” into the well patterned tried-and-true “old wineskin” of the legacy style evangelical church which I had loved and served for two decades. I was met with a surprising amount of resistance and skepticism for what I considered a call from God. Status Quo is the vowed enemy of new vision I came to realize. Read more>>

One of my top favorite quotes is by the late Kobe Bryant, “ It’s the one thing you can control. You are responsible for how people remember you—or don’t. So don’t take it lightly “ Growing up (and even still sometimes now) I was the reserved quiet girl so I was either the one people remembered as that or not at all. I love this quote because when I first came across it it prompted me to step out of my comfort zone, be the me I am around my friends and closest family. I was so caught up in acceptance that nobody was even remembering me. So I stepped out , opened up a little bit more and because of that have made many connections in the acting world , that even lead to my first lead paid role and has helped me get my artist MrBaccAtIt on a few films on Tubi and Amazon Prime. Proverbs 18:16 “Your gifts will make room for you, and bring you before great men.” When I first decided to pursue music full-time, I had no idea what that would look like for me. I had just spent 8 semesters getting an engineering degree I didn’t want because people told me that music wasn’t a real career, so I was scared out of my mind starting a new major. What I did know was that music was my life. Music was what I spent all my time doing and what I prioritized, even when I desperately needed to be focused on other things. Read more>>

I actually have two favorite quotes that I live by daily. “Proper preparation prevents poor performance” written by James Baker and “To be early is to be on time, to be on time is to be late, to be late is to be forgotten.” written by Elin Hilderbrand I feel that both of these quotes are self-explanatory and a big key to being a great entrepreneur. “It doesn’t matter if a million people tell you what you can’t do, or if ten million tell you no. If you get one yes from God that’s all you need.” – Tyler Perry Let me tell you, I live my life by this one specific quote right here. Being an artist and entrepreneur is so hard in todays world, mostly because everyone is trying to do it. Everyone wants to “work for themselves” and if they don’t the world makes you feel bad for having a 9-5. The reason this quote means so much to me is because it is sooooo true. Read more>>

My favorite quote comes from Dr. Maya Angelou. She stated “, If you are always trying to be normal, you will never know how amazing you can be.” To me, this means that being different or unconventional are assets, as opposed to liabilities. And this is true for the professional and personal dimensions of our lives. Read more>>

My favorite Affirmation is one that I created. “I am smart, I am efficient, I am effective, I am enough.” This came about in a time where I was feeling low. I felt as though I wasn’t good enough to become successful. I was down on myself & felt like I was stupid & wasn’t being effective in my career. This was my way of reminding myself that all the things I was feeling were based in self doubt an therefore, untrue. I knew I was good enough. I knew I was smart & I just needed that reminder. I think sometimes we could all use a reminder of how amazing we are. Read more>>
