We had the good fortune of connecting with Myisha Antonette and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Myisha, career-wise, where do you want to be in the end?
The goal I have for my business is to cultivate a safe space for vulnerability in black women while grieving. Grief is a subject we don’t speak on very often, especially within the black community. I want to change the narrative around the word GRIEF. Grief needs to be expressed and worked through. We show up for work and others, but we don’t show up for ourselves through our own journeys. I want to assist other women on how to hold space for themselves while rebuilding after loss. As women, we WILL overcome and flourish in our purpose as God has planned. I personally want to use the pain I’ve endured, to uplift those around me. We are not alone in our grief.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
I started my business, Like A Lady, when life happened. My father, my love, my security, passed away in 2017. With this being the most tragic situation I’ve ever experienced, I hit rock bottom. I didn’t know what to do. I fell into a depression and I was completely lost. Out of the pain birthed my purpose. I realized there are many women dealing with the same situations. I decided to start a blog speaking on ways to speak your grief and how to cope. Like A Lady is my healing place, and I know it can be for other black women as well. No, I didn’t wake up one morning and decide, “you know what, I’m going to talk about grief for the rest of my life.” However, that is the purpose and assignment God handed to me. I know God has women waiting for me to walk in my purpose, so they can be healed. After further talks with God, I decided to become a Certified Grief Coach. In order to cope and flourish in life after loss, you have to do the work. I will assist black women on how to give themselves permission to grieve openly and honestly. Grief looks different for everyone. You have to acknowledge and understand what Grief looks like for you.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
If my best friend were to visit for a week, we would have to google the best places to go, seeing as though I rarely go out. However, a few places I enjoy include: Puttshack, Ponce City market, Piedmont Park, and any place where you can get TACOS!!

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I want to thank my mother for being such a strong person/parent when my father passed. My mother has been supportive since I started this business. She has encourage me through this entire process. Without her, I would be lost. My best friend, mother, and inspiration. I would also like to thank Andrea Moore, From Grief to Grind, for encouraging me and providing mentorship throughout my journey to being a Certified Grief Coach.
