We had the good fortune of connecting with Memry Wilson and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Memry, how has your background shaped the person you are today?

I’m originally from Memphis, TN and I’ve been around the beauty industry since I can remember. My grandmother was a licensed cosmetologist and did hair for over 30 years. You can’t have beauty without brains, so Education has always been a huge part of my life in conjunction with the beauty industry. So, I recently obtained my Cosmetology Instructors License which seems almost meant to be. Aside from my masters in education, continuing my education and upgrading my cosmetology license is like a dream manifested to reality.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I consider myself a creative. I started reciting poems at the age of 7 in pageants, I fell in love with crafting and making things with my hands, and gymnastics, all at the same time really. Each of those gifts have stayed on my spirit and been fed continuously throughout my adulthood. After completing my M.Ed. I moved to Los Angeles to pursue artistic passions and found new ones I didn’t know existed. I began lashing in 2016 and I haven’t looked back. In 2018, I created my first lash brand and learned a lot of new things about business and making larger purchases and knowing what my target market wants and likes. Last summer recreating my brand during the pandemic wasn’t easy but I have had an enormous amount of fun this past year really working on something I love and selecting things and making products I believe are game changing. For example, my new Memry Mink Lash trays slide completely out for easy access so every row of lashes is accessible and techs aren’t working hard and ruining tweezers trying to simply prep for the lash appointment.

I think the biggest lesson I’ve learned is to keep going. Even when you’re terrified and have no clue how things are going to turn out, trust that they’ll turn out amazing, and they usually turn out extraordinary.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I’d like to dedicate this shoutout to the women who made me. Thea Sterling Adell (my mother), Joyce Marie Sterling (maternal grandmother) Memry Wilson (fraternal grandmother) I know that each one of these women whether aware or unaware instilled and planted things inside of me that have blossomed, are blossoming and are yet to make an appearance. But I am grateful to still have them here to share memories and wins with. I’d also like to that Ms. Pat she’s a native of Los Angeles and was the first person to ever train me in Lash Extensions without her guidance and confidence in me I definitely wouldn’t have fallen in love with such a great service.
