We had the good fortune of connecting with Delena Sanders and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Delena, what role has risk played in your life or career?
I consider myself a risk taker. I’ve taken a lot of risks for my business. I could have stayed in Corporate America and opted for financial security but playing it safe didn’t appease me. Especially knowing that there was a chance for me to have the life I’ve always wanted and to do something that actually makes a difference. It takes a lot of faith in yourself. For me, what it comes down to is chance. If there’s chance that I can fulfill my heart’s desires, I’m going to take it; it would kill my spirit not to. It has its ups and downs but luckily, it’s been working out in my favor.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
I started my doula practice a little over a year ago and it has not been easy at all, especially during the pandemic. The greatest challenge has been sustaining myself financially. There are times when I am in between clients and have to find other means to make the rent. Fortunately this year has brought me more consistent clientele however if ever my revenue is low, I resort to other side hustles such as Uber eats, babysitting, etc. I do what I have to do. The greatest lesson in all of it has been to stay the course. Any career field will have its good and bad days but its important that I see it through no matter what. I believe that’s what sets me apart.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I would definitely take them to some of my favorite nature spots. We would hang out at Yellow River and Roswell Falls for sure. I’d want to take them to some of my favorite breakfast spots like Milk and Honey or the Original Pancake House. We would hit up Kat’s Cafe or Apache Cafe for Spoken Word events. I don’t really get out too much lol

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I would like to shout out my family. My parents and grandparents are all very supportive of me following own path. It’s easier when you have people by your side and in your corner.
