We had the good fortune of connecting with Doctor Amber and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Doctor, what is the most important factor behind your success?
The most important factor to my success is by far my Faith in God. I have lots of success tips, tricks and advice that I’ve taken over the years, but nothing compares to my Faith. It is so important because it has kept me grounded, and it kept my pushing when times were hard. It is my major inspiration to touch so many people, and the reason why I am where I am today. My success is based on the standard I set for myself that represents who I am and who lives in me.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
As a student success coach, I encourage, inspire, and guide students through their journey. It is much deeper than studying and getting better grades. My focus is to help them find their self worth as a Black and/or student of color in a world where their education makes them strong and unforgettable. The way I coach students is unique to their personal process. We address confidence, time management, mental health, and even financial disparities that can put them at a disadvantage and how to navigate these obstacles they are facing. Getting to this point wasn’t easy but it was SIMPLE. Choosing to represent my community, using what I know to help build a stronger generation after me, and listening to God when it’s time to change the world one student at a time. I always overcome challenges by talking over with some of my favorite people. . . God, my husband, my mother and sister. I want the world to know that there is a resource out here that is invested in making better well-rounded students.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I love Atlanta, I grew up on the Southside so I love to eat and explore as much as I can. I would definitely hit the Krog Street Market for some good food, Cheddars or my favorite Mexican restaurants for drinks, Bruster’s for some ice cream, and visit the candy shop in Atlantic Station. Going to SkateTowne or Cascade to skate is always on the list to visit and have fun, and I love to hang out at the jazz clubs/lounges on a good Sunday evening in South Atlanta. You really can’t visit Atlanta at east without hitting downtown at the parks and museums or driving by MLK Jr.’s house, that history is undeniable.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Brannon Jones, the CEO of Next Step Education has helped mentor me. He is inspiring and his journey is helping me mold my mission and vision into what you guys see today. His mentorship is priceless, and he is helping so many students.
