Hi Alonzo, we’d love to hear about how you approach risk and risk-taking
Risk comes with the chance of loss. However, it also comes with the chance of reward and that is what makes it so exciting. Very little in this world comes easy so, we have to take risks in order to push ourselves beyond our limits. I have always been a risk taker, measured in my approach but, unafraid of the probability. Thus, the role that it has played in my life is pretty significant. I see my goal, measure it, educate myself, evaluate the risk, go for it and let the chips fall where they may. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn’t but nothing beats failure but a try.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
As a Military Veteran (Air Force) I knew very little about insurance or risk management. However, once I began to work in the industry I quickly learned that there are so many tentacles from which to build a career either as an employee or an owner. I set upon the task of learning as much as I could about my field and how I could share that knowledge to help people protect their dreams. So, when I started Anderson Risk Consultants it was with the intent to educate and that was a major challenge because, unfortunately, a lot of people attach a negative connotation to the insurance industry. It’s a wholly non-tangible asset so the obstacle is to illustrate the tangible aspects of the product via risk evaluation and management. It’s easy to say “here’s a bottle of Coca-Cola, it’s a beverage, drink it”. However, it is far more difficult to say “here’s your insurance policy, you may pay on it for years and never use it but, when the time comes to use it, you will then see it’s true value”. Thus, I feel that in order to succeed in this business, I have to secure my client’s trust through my knowledge, track record and ability to illustrate the importance of using insurance as a tool to build and protect wealth. That’s my calling card and that’s my brand.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
First stop would be The Beirut Mediterranean Restaurant in Peachtree City (South Atlanta). Hands down, the food at The Beirut is the best I have ever had. My wife and I always take friends and guests there to dine. Impeccable service and tremendous atmosphere. Next I would take them to visit the Chateau Elan resort in North Atlanta. Chateau Elan offers a winery, spa, fine dining, golf and many more activities, you could spend a week there and never get bored, it actually feels like you are in France with the architecture and landscaping, just a beautiful resort. With Atlanta being so diverse there are just so many entertainment options to choose from such as Piedmont Park, The Aquarium, Buckhead, DJ parties at The Intercontinental, The Botanical Gardens and last but not least, the square in Peachtree City where there are always events happening for every taste imaginable. Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
My wife Dr. Jacinta Anderson is my rock. She is the eternal optimist who never sees an obstacle. Without her encouragement, understanding and never say die attitude, I would not be where I am today.
