We had the good fortune of connecting with Brianna Gaynor and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Brianna, what role has risk played in your life or career?
I am someone who tends to be cautious, I am a thinker. I am actually an overthinker, a skill which serves me because I think of the big picture, plan for ways to improve processes, and consider how others are affected and what their needs are. It can also be to my detriment, as it tends to make it difficult to “shut down” my brain and disconnect. Because risk taking is not my natural tendency, it has been the most gratifying and terrifying aspect of life. Risks have led to many of my best choices. I chose to leave a job I was comfortable and secure in to begin a business with no guarantee it would work out. While at times I was uncertain, it has been one of the best decisions I have ever made. I was and still trust that I am operating in God’s plan for my life. Now when I consider where I am, I wonder what and who I would have missed out on if I had never made that decision? I am able to employ people and create an environment that is fun and peaceful. I get to serve people others don’t and to connect with clients in a way I never would have been able to if I had not created my own space. In life, those choices, challenges, and relationships we experience can often lead to the best growth opportunities and lifelong connections. So, please know that sometimes fear is an indicator that we are going in the right direction! Follow your instincts and be willing to take risks because the lessons alone are so worth it.
Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Peace of Mind Psychological Services is an outpatient private mental health practice that provides assessment and treatment through psychological evaluations and therapy, to children, teens, and adults. I spend a lot of my time interviewing clients about their history of concerns and providing feedback sessions which identify the resources which will be most helpful to their individual needs. What I am most proud of about Peace of Mind is how people feel when they leave the office. I often have people tell me they feel peace and kindness when they come to our office, which is an indication that we have done our job. I want the world to know that Peace of Mind Psychological Services is dedicated to helping and healing children, youth, and adults with mental illness, stress, and everyday life struggles. Most importantly, we want to see you well and will do what we can, including referring you to another resource or simply giving you the time to speak your truth, to ensure you know that you are heard, cared for, and valued.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
My best friend and I love the simple pleasures. With that being said, I would take her to a downtown area as Georgia has developed all these local city areas with food and shopping that feel like its own oasis. We would also make sure to visit some of the plethora of local eateries as we enjoy food and there is such as array of different types of cuisine here. We also have so many historic sites, such as the Martin Luther King Jr. historic park and the African American Monument, and tourist sites, such as the World of Coca-Cola and the Georgia Aquarium, to choose from. Because we have great weather, I would also spend time at one of our many wineries or Chateau Elan, for a getaway and the ultimate spa experience. Other must-sees really depend on my guest’s preferences, but in the summer my favorite place to be is at an outdoor concert listening to my favorite artists for hours on end.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
My best friends are my biggest supporters. I have a consultation group, a high school (IC) group, friends from college and life in general. While I know them all in different capacities, they all serve an amazing purpose. They are all a support system for me which allows me to be who I am, express how I feel, and feelings I can’t tell others. They are also my biggest supporters and I am so honored to have them in my life.
