We had the good fortune of connecting with Hunter Flanagan and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Hunter, what’s something about your industry that outsiders are probably unaware of?
The thing people are most unaware of is just how close and supportive all the musicians are with each other. I’m one of the young musicians on the georgia music scene which has earned me the nickname young gun with all the older musicians. A man who’s been around the scene many years and is a phenomenal musician Gregg Erwin actually got me a guitar strap with that name etched on it. So were actually almost a big family. So many musicians have helped and supported me on this journey.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I’ve been singing for as long as I can remember. At 16 months old I knew all the songs to the Wizard Of Oz. From the age of 6 you couldnt keep me from a stage. I already had a love for entertaining. I got my first show at 6 flags at 10 years old and from then on I had tunnel vision for entertainment. I got into the school jazz band playing drumset. At 15 I got my first guitar and started singing at the bars and the restaurants. From there I’ve added ukulele, harmonica, harp, banjo, piano, tin whistle, and mandolin. I’ve opened for acts like Mark Wills, Gene watson, Rhonda Vincent, Confederate Railroad, and done preshow for Lee greenwood, Herman’s Hermits, and Exile. I’ve performed at CMAfest. In 2018 I was Georgia country teen artist of the year. I’m the current Georgia Country Overall artist of the year. Voting will start again for Georgia country in june. Would love to have the support! Go to Georgia-country.com for voting. I’ve been a featured guest on ATL and Company on 3 occasions. I’m a finalist of the International Singer-Songwriter Associations USA young adult artist of the year. This has been an amazing few years and im so blessed to be where I am!
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Well I’m a certified advanced SCUBA diver. So any friend that’s visiting Georgia HAS to go to Deep South Divers in newnan georgia! Wade Sweatman and the DSD guys are always gonna make everyone feel at home and showcase that famous southern hospitality. For something to eat I’d have to take them to sixes tavern in Cartersville. Has some of the best food in the area and thanks to Wayne Winfield and Chris Carver and the staff it also has the best atmosphere and is so good at supporting local musicians. For a mountain trip I’d have to take them to bear claw vineyards in blue ridge. I may not be old enough to drink but I hear they’re famous for their wines and the treehouse you can spend the night in! Any week showing someone the sites would have to include a lot of live music venues like Gustons Grille, brothers bar and grill in Villa Rica, Cartecay Vineyard, Brickhouse La Grange, Blue Coyote and so many more!! Any place that supports the local musicians!
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I dont know where I’d be without the likes of people like my family! AMD Gregg Erwin, Craig Patterson, Brett and Paula Strickland, Dan Seals from Georgia Country John Warren, Drew and Angela Ashworth, Freda Wiley, Michelle Swims, and the many other musicians that have helped me on my way; my buddy Garrett Wheeler Donny Hammond’s, Micheal Clements, Freddy Shelby, Josh Purgason, Eric Clanton, Barry Beeler, Rob Grater, Keith Thomas, Ralph Berg, Rick Stone, and so many others that I’m probably missing!
