We had the good fortune of connecting with Anna Mikhaela Reyes and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Anna Mikhaela, do you have any habits that you feel contribute to your effectiveness?
Finding balance—knowing when to push myself and knowing when to rest—has been extremely effective for me. It’s important to recognize when you need to put in some extra hustle to realize your true potential—you can’t expect to reach your goals if you keep making excuses for your own progress. At the same time, being able to remove yourself from work mode is necessary to replenish your mental and physical health, which will benefit you and your work in the long run. Sometimes a moment away is enough to look back at your own work with fresh eyes in order to see a new perspective. Know your mind and mind your body!

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
Working between graphic design, illustration, and portraiture, I get the privilege of bouncing between different media and being able to exercise different muscles of creativity. With that, I get to share different perspectives and ways of viewing our world, which allows me to connect with others and show that we all share a little piece of each other and have something in common.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
First stops would be some of the best nature spots in and around Atlanta: Sweetwater Creek, East Palisades Trail, or Kennesaw Mountain. Of course, the aquarium makes the list as well as a concert at State Farm Arena. As for food: I’d drag them straight to Sweet Hut or Der Biergarten!

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
To Gabriella Ramos: thank you for being soft but intentional, for being honest but kind. Thank you for your unbiased judgment, your encouragement, and your thoughtfulness. Thank you for pointing out when I am in the wrong and for assuring me that everything will be alright. You are a work of art.
