We had the good fortune of connecting with Scoobie West and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Scoobie, can you tell us about an impactful book you’ve read and why you liked it or what impact it had on you?
Recently, I read ‘How to be a Badass’ by Jen Sincero. I picked it up in the airport while traveling from London with a client. Initially, I thought — how can this book change how I live? Well, while reading the book, I was able to pinpoint and relate to many of the examples of how we sometimes doubt ourselves, leading to slow or no growth. Since reading the book and applying the principles, I was able to grow my business by over 25%, by not doubting myself. By not doubting myself and believing in all possibilities, I am able to continue to follow my dreams.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I started out over 20 years ago doing hair and makeup and planning events for friends and family. My process has changed a lot since then, but my goal remains the same. Create clean, classic beauty – and this is what sets me apart from others. I’m most proud of my lip line (Chloe + Christian) and my candle line (Scoobie West Home). They were both a huge labor of love, but the work was so worth it. I sort of fell into the business owner/ceo role. While working in corporate america, I wasn’t happy…I wasn’t fulfilled. I was doing hair and makeup part time on the weekends, but dreaded going into the office on Monday morning. One day, I was told that our office was closing and that my severance would be $416. That’s when I knew that I had to make my hobby become my career. The biggest lesson I’ve learned along the way was to always be transparent and have open communication with anyone you are doing business with. I want the world to know that Scoobie West & Company is striving to be a household name. We plan amazing events, provide onsite hair and makeup services, have amazing candle fragrances and matte liquid lipstick line that lasts for hours without touchup.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
If my best friend was coming to Atlanta, we would visit all of my favorite places!! First stop – Bartaco in West Midtown for tacos and margaritas. During the course of the weekend, we would have brunch at Breakfast at Barneys and go shopping at Lenox Mall, Phipps and The Shops of Buckhead. Another favorite place we would visit is Candlefish for a candle making class at Ponce City Market. Naturally, we would visit the rooftop and enjoy all of the open spaces and the rooftop views. Squeezing in a trip to the Four Seasons Spa is a must…then we will finish the weekend with dinner at my favorite Le Bilboquet.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
My shoutout is dedicated to my family and friends. They push me to be better, they always encourage me to do the right thing and they expect excellence.
