We had the good fortune of connecting with Sonya McGuire and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Sonya, what do you attribute your success to?
My ability to see my work transcend language barriers, cultural barriers, and touch others lives enhancing it for the better.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
What sets me apart as a black woman, it would be stick-to-it-ive-ness, which is defined simply as the backbone, heart, persistence, grit, stamina, staying power and the art of never giving up. I would have to say that my unique qualities are the gift of love and giving. I have learned over the years that every seed sown into the life of another has to grow and effect those around it’s growth. So it’s very important as an African American woman, that we push and support each other in being the rocket booster to assist in helping others get to the next altitude. I’ve learned that it is a blessing in learning to love people where they are and that will move them forward to where they need to be. This road and journey has not been easy by far, but giving up has never been an option for me.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
The city as a whole is an amazing place. There are countless, amazing places, and things to do in our city to pick just one. It would take me more than a week to share all the things that this city has to offer…lol
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
My mother who passed away in 2021. She taught me the beauty and enhancement of love, the art of loving and being loved, along with self respect and always keeping God first.
