We had the good fortune of connecting with Iyana Owens and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Iyana, how do you think about risk?
Risk taking is something that has to be done when trying to start your own business. There will be so many people telling you not to do this and that. My whole career has been a risk. So many people close to me told me I was crazy and I wouldn’t like being a chef . They were wrong I love my job and now see those same naysayers trying to did the exact same thing I did. The fact that I inspire so many people is the best part.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I am a culinary artist. Cooking is my passion. Being able to put my twist on a dish is what I love. I am most proud about where I am today. All the hard work, sweat and tears for the last 7 years has payed off. It definitely wasn’t an easy journey but I continued to work and never give up. I have learned many lessons along the way but the most important is to never give up and always believe in yourself.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I would like to dedicate my shout out to my grandfather Willie E Banks . He has taught me so many things in life. He is the reason I am so brave and a risk taker.
