We had the good fortune of connecting with Royce Hall and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Royce, so before we jump into specifics about your story and work, let’s start higher level. What’s the most important lesson you’ve learned along your journey?
The most important lesson I’ve learned, thus far, along my journey is to always remain devoted to the core of who I am. To stay true to my mission and purpose. Anything less than my authenticity is a compromise of existence and power.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I am a recording artist, songwriter, arranger, multi-instrumentalist, mc, vocalist, author, poet, actor and screenwriter. Many elements set me apart from others. My identity, my experiences– definitely package me with a unique set of tools. I’m a storyteller who rarely focuses on entertaining. I focus on enlightening and engaging. I focus on bridging community gaps, creating discourse, saving lives. My mission is my art. The professional aspect was conceived as my loyalty to my purpose increased. I’ve learned to remain faithful to my existence. My life is necessary. My path is neccessary.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
If my bestfriend were visting me we would definitely attend all of the best concerts. We would start the day with breakfast at a different restaurant daily. Gocha’s and La Petite would be on the list for sure. We would visit every museum that seemed of interest. Though, I’m still familiarizing myself with the city, we would have an amazing time!
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I would love to dedicate my shoutout to my mom. She is deserving of my entire shoutout, all of my shoutouts. She’s my bestfriend.
