Meet Dorian Jordan: Model for The Rya Brand

We had the good fortune of connecting with Dorian Jordan and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Dorian, can you share the most important lesson you’ve learned over the course of your career?
To just put in the work and to listen to those with more experience. I think a lot of people see the end game and all the possibilities that can come, but lack the planning to get there. They want to jump and be great the next day and that’s just not feasible. I’ve also never been afraid of constructive criticism. I can listen to others, accept the advice, and adjust myself so that I can be better.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I am most excited about learning different poses and learning what types of photography fit me to elevate my craft to the next level. I’m long and slender, so I’ll definitely use my height to my advantage. I think the hardest part for me has been to learn not to stress about what I think I look like because the photographer/creative director sees something different than I do. I’ve learned to just be trusting, to listen, and take correction to get the shot and I think that has been a big part of my success.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Probably Jeju Sauna in Duluth would be my favorite place to spend the day. I’ve been a few times and it feels like time just stops. It’s the best place to relax. You can swim in the pool, lay around in the sauna rooms, get a mani/pedi, or get a massage. They even have a food court inside so you don’t even have to leave to eat. The perfect time for me is any place where I can relax. I’m so busy everyday with work and school, that when it’s time to relax I always look forward to it.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Firstly, The Rya Brand. They accepted me right away and made me feel comfortable. The entire brand has been super helpful and they’re so full of ideas and great content that just fit me and my look. This was the perfect place for me to start at and I honestly owe any of my success in this field to them. The Rya Brand is an amazing company and they have coached me and molded me, but most importantly they’ve given me a confidence in myself that I never had before. I’d also like to thank Kourtney Jackson (@kourtneyjthemodel). We have professionally worked together at two different facilities and without her introducing me to The Rya Brand I would not even be here. Lastly, I just want to thank all my family friends for all the support. Every time I send a new set of pictures I get nothing but love. They are my biggest hype-men for sure!
