We had the good fortune of connecting with Fatiyha Johnson and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Fatiyha, is there something that you feel is most responsible for your success?
I would say the most important factors behind the success of my brand and essentially my career is incredibly cliche but necessary ingredients in creating a successful brand; marketing, constant outreach, gratitude, a strong work ethic and consistency.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I’m a wardrobe stylist and I primarily style commercial/lifestyle productions! I started styling 4 years ago as an intern, assisting on commercial campaigns and lifestyle productions. The journey to becoming a lead stylist wasn’t hard per say but it definitely requires patience; often times we want to place ourselves at the finish line but the opportunities and the gems we learn along the way shape us, so when we do finally arrive at the finish line we’ll be prepared. Coming into the industry with aspirations of wanting to become a full-time stylist I thought this job was all about styling but like most creative industries/roles their is a business side to it, which is important that any stylist coming up take the time to learn; being a wardrobe stylist its 90% organization and 10% styling. If you don’t know how to manage a budget, adjust what you pull to meet the demands of the client, lead a team and keep all the thousands of dollars of clothes you pull organized, you won’t last long in this business. Lastly, be a nice human being lol! Talent may get you in the room but your personality, how you treat people, essentially your reputation, keep you there!

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I’m all about a vibe! Ambiance is everything to me, I’m a visual person! The spots I’ve been loving lately are; The Parlor, The James Room, Rock Steady and Pasha. Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I have an amazing core group of incredibly supportive people in my life. My support group is a beautiful mixture of close family members, close friends and my lovely agency; all have poured so much into me and I wouldn’t be where I am today if it wasn’t for these individuals!
