Meet Maerreli Davis | Maerreli | Emerging Musician, Screenwriter & Author

We had the good fortune of connecting with Maerreli Davis and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Maerreli, what do you think makes you most happy? Why?
Creating is where I find my truest happiness. Ever since I was a child, I have been writing songs, though I didn’t fully realize back then just how much pure joy it brought me. In middle school, that passion expanded when I wrote a short play called The Wilting Flowers. I have always possessed an innately creative mind, and thankfully, that artistic spark has followed me right into adulthood.
Today, I still write songs, short stories, and poetry, eagerly pursuing anything that can satiate my creative appetite. I constantly find myself daydreaming and building alternate realities, exploring those vivid worlds through both my music and my fiction. I have even written a full screenplay. Crafting stories in any form genuinely pleases my spirit, and it is within these worlds of my own making that I am at my absolute happiest.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
What sets me apart as a creator is my willingness to touch upon the subjects and surfaces that most people would rather ignore. In my writing, I often explore themes that would be considered dark or morbid, crafting stories that might unsettle some readers. I find these narratives fascinating because they offer uncomfortable glimpses of reality, and I believe there is a profound, unconventional beauty to be found in the darker parts of our world.
When it comes to my music, I am still actively evolving and discovering my definitive sound. However, looking at everything I have written and created so far, along with the visual aesthetics I build around my art, my defining trait is a total fearlessness toward taking risks. Whether it is through sound, fashion, or concepts, I never want to assimilate. I am constantly thinking outside of the box and daring to be different.
The act of creation itself has always flowed naturally to me, but the true challenge has been putting my work out into the world and learning to navigate the criticism that comes with visibility. When I first published my stories, I faced harsh judgment, and it deeply bothered me at the beginning. Over time, I came to realize that critique is simply a natural part of the artistic process. You cannot allow outside noise to detour you from your unique vision. Ultimately, you must continue to create exactly what speaks to you, no matter what.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
If my best friend were visiting for a week-long getaway, the itinerary would be an intentional blend of culinary experiences, immersive retro nightlife, and peaceful escapes into nature. We would kick off our culinary adventures at Barcelona Wine Bar. The ambiance there is unmatched, a lively setting perfect for catching up. The tapas are incredibly delicious, and sharing a variety of small plates alongside an excellent wine selection makes for a beautiful evening.
When it comes to nightlife, a visit to Jojo’s Beloved Cocktail Lounge is absolutely essential. I am deeply drawn to vintage visual aesthetics, and if I had been an adult during the 1970s, I would have definitely spent my nights at Studio 54. Stepping into this lounge feels like a genuine blast to the past. The interior captures the 70s, complete with a beautiful disco globe and an incredible music selection featuring seventies and eighties tracks. It is the ultimate spot if you want to dance, enjoy great music, and appreciate a curated atmosphere.
To balance out the energy of the city, we would also spend a day traveling to explore Georgia’s beautiful vineyards. There are so many incredible wineries tucked away in the region, and being surrounded by the rolling hills and lush greenery is incredibly peaceful to me. Spending an afternoon sipping local wines and sharing a delicious charcuterie board among the vines is the perfect cherry on top of an unforgettable week.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I would like to dedicate my shoutout to my mother. She has always been the ultimate champion of my potential, constantly encouraging me to be the absolute best version of myself. Growing up, she would always sit and intently listen to the stories and alternate realities I created, fostering my imagination rather than letting it fade. Her constant reassurance by reminding me to protect my creative mind and deeply validating my talent in all my creative endeavors is the reason I still proudly write today. I owe so much of my artistic journey and confidence to her love and encouragement.
