Meet Brooke Richey | Salon Owner & Stylist

We had the good fortune of connecting with Brooke Richey and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Brooke, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
The idea of starting your own business can be intimidating because you’re essentially placing a bet on yoursel which that is never easy. It requires drive, resilience, and absolute belief in your vision. Before taking the leap, I always weigh the pros and cons and ask myself the hard questions.. Am I doing this for the right reasons? Is this something I genuinely love? Your “why” matters because it dictates your level of commitment, discipline, and passion to show up every day and push forward.
When you embark on this journey, you discover how resourceful you truly are. You learn to surround yourself with the right people, those who support your vision and believe in you just as much as you believe in yourself. The wrong energy can derail you, while the right circle can elevate you.
At the end of the day, entrepreneurship is incredibly rewarding. It requires getting your hands dirty and putting in the hard work, especially in the first few years, to build the foundation of your dream. It’s not impossible, it’s just a test of how far you’re willing to go to create the life you want.

What should our readers know about your business?
I became a salon owner at 25 years old with one clear mission: to create a healthy, uplifting environment that breaks the stigma often associated with salons. I wanted my space to be more than just a place to get your hair done, it had to be a safe, judgment-free environment for both clients and stylists. A place where creativity, self-expression, and genuine connection were encouraged and celebrated.
At my salon, every stylist wakes up excited to come to work because they truly love what they do. They don’t just do hair they guide you, uplift you, and make sure you walk out feeling more confident, more beautiful and more empowered than when you walked in.
But none of this came easy. Balancing life as a business owner while still working full-time behind the chair means wearing many hats. I’ve had to learn when to lead, when to listen and when to unplug to protect my peace and create a healthy work-life balance.
On top of that, I became a mother at 16. That experience ignited a fire in me I never knew I had. Being a young mom gave me purpose, drive and the determination to show my daughter that no matter what life throws at you, anything is possible. Every step I’ve taken, every challenge I’ve overcome has been to show her that dreams aren’t just something you talk about, you can bring them to life.
I am proud of where I started, proud of what I’ve built, and even more proud that my journey is inspiring the next generation. starting with my daughter.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Being in South Atlanta gives you the best of both world everything is close and you never run out of places to explore. If I were keeping it local, Curious Kitchen would be a must. The food is to die for and the vibe is unmatched there’s truly nothing else like it around here.
But if we were to venture just a bit further, I’d take them to Trilith. It’s the perfect modern-day escape, filled with charm and character. They’ve got the cutest ice cream spots, plant shops, floral boutiques it’s like stepping into a little curated village designed for walking, shopping and just enjoying the day.
South Atlanta may be quiet, but it keeps you close to everything worth experiencing.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I wouldn’t be where I am today without my parents, my brothers, and my daughter. They are my reason, my strength, and my drive. On the days when I didn’t believe in myself or felt completely defeated, they never wavered. They stood behind me 10 toes down, reminding me every single day why I do what I do and who I’m doing it for.
