Meet TYLARASPEN | Director, Rapper, Producer, Writer, Editor, & Cinematographer

We had the good fortune of connecting with TYLARASPEN and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi TYLARASPEN, what led you to pursuing a creative path professionally?
I’ve always been wanting to make a career out of something I love to do and that is making movies and music. Everyday I am inspired by something that makes me want to put up either a camera and start filming or pick up a mic and start recording. If it wasn’t those two, I would probably edit or draw something. Since I was 6 years old, I always wanted to start a career in the entertainment industry. All these ideas that are f]owing through my head, it was a no brainer to make it a career.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
My art is all DIY. The way my videos and photos are shot are all inspired by movies. I’m technically showing my vision through everything I shoot and put on video. Everything is intentional.
I’m most excited to continue to showcase my talents through one medium to another. I’ve spent years creating all types of content to see if I could find a audience who appreciate and understand my art.
I got to where I am at by knowing people who are interested in the same career path and made it far enough to get somewhere. Connections are important if you really wanna put your work out to the public.
It wasn’t easy, I put out several types of content and it takes while to get it seen. Most of the work is promoting it, but I’m introverted and overthink a lot so I had to get out my comfort zone. A big lesson is don’t be afraid to show off your talent, somebody’s gonna like or love it, or hate it so what.
I let my art speak for me, but to close in the gap. I’m TYLARASPEN, a musician, director, cinematographer, editor, record producer, and visionary and I’m proud to share my art with the world.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
We could go to the rocks, eat at a spot I’ve never tried or have tried. We can go to the movies and explore the rest of the city I’ve explored yet because of the unknown knowledge about the area. It’s Richmond, so it’s all up to where we go and hang out at.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
First, I wanna shout out my mom for believing in me, even though she had to find out herself because I was too shy to tell myself. I wanna shout out my grandma for being my biggest supporter since day one. She was the first to pick up my interests and helped me fully realize my ideas and even helped record my earlier moments, on videotape by the way.
I also wanna shout out Zvy!, a fellow Richmond artist and friend who I believe to deserve as much props as I do for his talent for music, check him out. Him and I, are working something coming very soon if not already out bout time this comes out. Lastly, I wanna shout out Sanchild, she previously had her article last month and she’s a recent collaborator on my latest album “When The Street Lights Come On”. She got a pen on her, like she can write her behind off, so props to her.
