Meet Meg Poveromo | Filmmaker & Actress

We had the good fortune of connecting with Meg Poveromo and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Meg, what role has risk played in your life or career?
I love taking risks! It’s something you pretty much have to get used to in the creative field. I think about how many people avoid starting something they’ve always wanted to do because they’re scared of looking stupid or think they’ll be bad at it and it’s just a really lame mindset to have. I’m able to say with full confidence that anyone who’s had something to say about me regarding taking risks in my art is in fact a lame person. As a filmmaker, you have to take risks with money, time, your social life and sanity among else. The end result is always worth it. If you take the risk and it doesn’t work out, at least you tried, and if you don’t take the risk, you’re going to spend forever thinking about what would happen if you did.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I just like having as much fun as possible in what I do and I execute things very fast. I’m a perfectionist but in a very nonconventional way. I try my hardest to imitate my visions the exact way they play out in my brain, which are chaotic and all over the place. I got to where I am today because of those exact visions, and some friends who supported my delusions. It wasn’t easy, but I do feel lucky that I had a couple people eager to be a part of my first projects because it’s really hard to find participants for something made from inexperience. But just like with anything else, you get better with practice, and eventually you’ll have the opposite problem. I’ve now worked with so many different types of people and I’ve definitely learned to never be too nice because it can get you screwed over, never be too compromising for the sake of others when it comes to your art, let yourself enjoy the moment, and stop stressing so much when things have always proven to work out in the end.
Regarding the last question, I enjoy being enigmatic. Perceive me how you please.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I always take people to Little Five Points whenever I play tour guide. Piedmont Park if someone else is driving because I can’t parallel park. Felix’s Atlanta. Mary’s. Dark Horse Tavern for live band karaoke. The Frisky Whisker. Biryani Point (Clarkston), LanZhou Ramen (Doraville) for food. Also, Metro Diner because I always feel like I’m in a dream in that place. Any dessert spot in Doraville is 10/10. Tea’z Social in Little 5 Points is really cool. Dekalb Farmers Market when it’s not crowded. Golden Drops Cafe, Corner Cup, Ash Coffee are my favorite coffee spots. Wandering around Grant Park is nice. Rollerblading/biking the beltline is a great time.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I have to say that I’d have no inspiration behind anything I do if it wasn’t for my friends, my impulsive life decisions and the people who have no idea that I make the characters in my films about them.
