Today we’re excited to be connecting with Wendy Garfinkel-gold again. If you haven’t already, we suggest you check out our prior conversation with them here.

Wendy, always such a pleasure connecting with you and thank you for sharing your stories, insights and inspiring messages with our community. We’re looking forward to getting the download and what you have been up to since our last interview, but first can you briefly introduce yourself to folks who might have missed the prior conversation.
I am an artistic portrait photographer. I was a graphic designer/art director for about 25 years prior to this path. I always loved photography and took photos from the time I was 15. I never thought I could make photography my creative path, I always thought of photography as a commercial endeavor. However, today I am a full-time creator and 2014 was the start of this change. I was on my own for about 2 years but in 2016 I became a member of a photo studio where I could learn and work with others and learn strobe lighting, something I had always wanted to know. During covid the studio closed and I went on my own in 2020.

Hard for me to believe, but life throws us into places where the possible becomes probable, so here I am. I did not close the door to design and the next day I was a full-fledged photographer, it took a few years. I took family photos and portraits, assisted at weddings and many types of photo shoots and realized I wanted a different path within photography. Today I am working hard at my own concepts and even though challenging, I truly love it. I feel like I am surfing my wave in the ocean and I am moving along well.

Alright, so our main goal today is to give our audience an update on what you have been up to since our last conversation. We’d love to hear how things are going and what you are most looking forward to or excited about these days.
I am always shooting. However I make a serious effort to spend more time studying various aspects of lighting and editing. I spend at least a few days a week doing this as it helps my creativity. I am also entering more juried shows and when I get into these shows I gain more exposure.

We also want to give folks a chance to get to know you a bit better so we’ve prepared a fun lightning round of questions. Ready?

Firstly I was able to take care of family members before they passed on. I love them and miss them. I am proud that I proved to myself to move forward to be a creator. I’d say to anyone reading this – do what you can with what you have and over time things will build and grow, but just start. There is no destination as they say, just stay on the bus…
