We had the good fortune of connecting with Nicola And Kathryn Foreman and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Nicola and Kathryn, how did you come up with the idea for your business?
We both were looking for creative outlets and started making candles together as a hobby. It was Kathryn’s idea and Nicola jumped in and wanted to participate. We started creating things that we liked and then gave them away. As more people expressed interest in them and wanted to pay for them, we realized that we might be on to something.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
When we started making candles, our only goal was to create something that we liked and would want to buy. We were inspired by Kentucky and wanted to show more elevated scents that represent the state. Developing scents and creating candles is lot more science than we initially realized, and took our time with each candle. It would have been easier to create something quick but we stayed true to creating what we loved.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
It’s always fun having people visit Kentucky. If there is ever a time to visit Louisville, it is for the Kentucky Derby. We would go to bourbon tastings, eat great food, and enjoy seeing people in fantastic hats! There are far too many wonderful restaurants to only choose a couple. Louisville is a great place to try so many different things.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
We have had so much support from family and friends. We definitely owe our success to everyone who has been so supportive. So many friends have bought and promoted our candles and it is so flattering. Our mother has been our number one champion since the beginning. She is incredibly encouraging, has let us take over parts of her home, attends events with us, and even handles some of our deliveries. Our father passed away 5 years ago, but we know he would have loved this. We often remark that we can imagine him talking about how proud he is. We are really lucky that we have always had our parents cheering us on in all our endeavors.
