We had the good fortune of connecting with Bobby and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Bobby, why did you pursue a creative career?
The idea of telling stories hit me at a very young age. I love the creative process. Creating characters and situations is great fun for me. So, writer seemed a natural progression. It’s a great job. I love it.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I am an author. I write novels, comic books, graphic novels, short stories, full-cast audio dramas, and screenplays. It’s fun. I’ve been published for 33 years now, though doing it professionally for 25. When I started, there were no viable do it yourself publishing options so I got my break by submitting stories to publishers. Eventually, I got a nibble. That put a published book in my hand. That became my resume. A lot of hard work, time, and effort went into getting published. Then, I had to start over to do it a second time, then a third, etc…

No. It wasn’t easy. Not even a little bit. Even now, it’s not easy. It takes a lot of work. It’s work I love, but there are long hours, frustrations, and the like, just as in any job. Thankfully, it’s a job I love.

I learned a lot along the way. Writing is a business. There’s also a lot more to being a writer than writing. I am equal parts marketing, promotion, IT support, artist, production, admin, travel planner, bookkeeper, secretary, CFO, and, oh what’s the other thing… oh, yeah. Writer.

I hope that readers will give my work a shot.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I am so boring that I don’t really have a good answer for this. There would be food, for sure, but no place immediately sticks out as a must visit. I really should look into getting better at that.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Big shout out to Jeff Austin. He helped inspire me to make some smart career decisions early on.
