We had the good fortune of connecting with Messon Jay-b and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Messon, why did you pursue a creative career?
Making music is what makes the most sense to my brain. That’s what I understand the most. That’s my way of communicating my existence to the outside world.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I think what sets me apart from other creatives is that my songs are written from a self-reflection point of you, they are structured like a therapy session. And what makes me very proud of the work I do on those songs is that I become a voice for everyone who has had similar experience but never get the chance to tell their side of the story. People feel heard after they listen to my songs and I’m very honored. It was very difficult to even claim the title musician or artist because I studied Business Law in college, my family expected to graduate and get a 9 to 5 but instead I grabbed the mic and the Note app on my phone. I want the world to know that if there something you are passionate about and your heart is about it, you should feel no fear or shame, but hang on to that fire, one day it’ll be big enough and the whole world will see it, and they will recognize your voice.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I would probably them to Piedmont Park to hang out, Chattahoochee River for a hike, the Georgia Aquarium, the Word of Coca-Cola, and Lake Lanier Jetski my personal favorite. Mary Mac’s Team Room or The Westin to eat.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
My mom, she has been very supportive of my career, I’m so grateful for her support.
