We had the good fortune of connecting with Furaha Sadi and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Furaha, how has your background shaped the person you are today?
I’m from DR Congo, where music is woven into everyday life; we grow up dancing, singing, and creating rhythms with whatever we find around us. This vibrant culture has deeply shaped who I am. As a singer, songwriter, and producer, I blend Pop and Jazz with my Congolese roots to share that sense of joy and rhythm I grew up with. My goal is to showcase my culture’s richness and spirit through my music.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
As an independent singer, songwriter, and producer, I’m incredibly proud to create music that’s authentically mine. By blending Pop with Jazz influences and my Congolese roots, I bring a fresh sound with an uplifting, cinematic feel that sets me apart.
The journey hasn’t been easy—being independent means facing high costs and encountering people who may not understand my vision. But defining success on my own terms and being my biggest fan have been my guiding lights. I keep in mind that my future self is already living my dream life, and that drives me forward.

Releasing my debut single taught me a few key lessons:

– Celebrate your accomplishments proudly; make your presence so strong that people can’t help but listen.
– Don’t rush the process.
– And most importantly, recognize that you can’t do everything alone.

I want the world to know that my passion runs deep. When someone listens to my music, my hope is that they feel inspired to love themselves more and recognize their own greatness.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
If my best friend were visiting for a week, I’d make sure to show her all the best spots Montreal has to offer! We’d start with a tour of the city’s museums to dive into its art and history. For brunch, Cafe Mimosa and Commodore Restaurant are a must; the food is insanely good. In the winter, we’d head to Place des Arts for some ice skating, and if it were summer, we’d make a day trip to Mont Tremblant to enjoy the outdoors.

Evenings would be all about Montreal’s music scene. Upstairs Jazz Bar is one of my favorite spots, with fantastic live music that captures the city’s vibe. Montreal has so much to offer, so we’d mix in casual exploring, great food, and local events to keep the week exciting!

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
First and foremost, I want to give a shoutout to myself. The ambition, determination, and hard work I pour into my art have been crucial in pushing through as an independent artist. With limited support, self-belief can be challenging, but it’s essential. I’m also deeply grateful for my family; their encouragement keeps me grounded and motivated. Huge thanks to Sonny Black, the co-producer of my debut single, who elevated “Make Her Proud” to a whole new level with his talent. I also have to mention Stromae; his artistry has been a major influence and inspires me endlessly. I’m proud of my Congolese roots, and I feel lucky to have experienced different cultures through travel. Those experiences and connections have shaped who I am today.
