We had the good fortune of connecting with Chakara Marlie Lorose and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Chakara, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
When I was younger I absolutely loved everything entertainment whether it was going to concerts, movies, festivals or shows. My siblings and I used to put our own shows together and record them. As I got older I would go to shows and genuinely liked seeing people from my community come together in a positive way and enjoying themselves. It’s something about that being surrounded by good energy and good people that really inspired me want to put on my own shows and events. It also made me realize that I love putting things together and producing. It wasn’t until I went back to school for Media and Leadership Performance that I realized that I loved events and film.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I can honestly say it was not easy and there are plenty of challenges with event curation. One big challenge was moving my business from TN to GA during Covid and expecting the turnout to be like it was in TN…and it wasn’t. It has been a constant journey of re-building clientele, re-seeking venues partnerships, re-seeking sponsorship, re-hiring staff and still be successful with the event outcome. There’s also other factors like competitors & funding. I was trying to curate while going to school and trying to build a career in the film industry which still has its challenges. Overcoming those challenges however was realizing that if God put something on your heart as your calling, nothing can stop you from getting there even the challenges. I don’t feel like most people because my mind is CONSTANTLY thinking whether it’s new ideas, goals, things to create, new film concepts, or a theme for a new event, I’m always thinking about the next thing thing to improve. What excites me about my business is knowing that when it becomes successful, it’ll be because I worked hard & never gave up. I began this journey with only me and my determination, so it will truly be filling to see how far it has come.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I want to give a shout out first and foremost to God and my family, my incredible partner. Jojo (my cat son) and every single person in my life who has ever supported, encouraged or helped me…I love you all so much.
