Meet Sierra Shingler | Plus Size Model

We had the good fortune of connecting with Sierra Shingler and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Sierra, what role has risk played in your life or career?
I took the risk in October of 2023 and I left my 9-5 that was mentally and physically draining me. Money was great but I wasn’t happy. Also during October of 2023 I had won my first modeling give away with Big Muva House Agency and so after I became a brand ambassador. I thought about my aspirations of always wanting to professionally model. I always thought that dream and hobby was far away, something a mother two living in a town in Maryland would never do. I took the risk of just believing in myself this year and knowing that anything is possible. Not only has my modeling portfolio grew this year but I have had some amazing opportunities come forth in this small time span. I am a model, a brand ambassador to multiple brands and a content creator who is taking risk to be authentic within herself and looking past the fear of doubt and failure and taking risk everyday to be what I want to be.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
As a beginner plus size model I have learned that I am different from other plus size models because I am not what you see in the modeling world. I give plus size women the truth when it comes to modeling. You see extra hips, you see extra curves and cellulite. It’s a connection when I go to Instagram and see that there are women just like me and that’s what makes me most excited. I am most proud about the confidence that I have and the strengthen to do it because it is not easy. I am here because I kept my drive, I networked and sat the right tables. When it came down to investing in myself it was not easy but when you are determined you make it happen when you want it you make it happen. I have learned that as long as you have the drive to invest in yourself everything else will come. I want to the world to know that plus size models are coming and we will be comfortable in our skins no matter what society deems normal.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
So being a city/suburb girl in the dmv, we love great music and good eats. We would probably start by getting some juice blue crabs from “The Wharf” and enjoy the scenery that it has. Then we would head over too H st or U st to enough the various lounges and bars. DC is the most known for our go-go so the lounges will always have that playing. We have tons of museums and activities. The most exciting thing I love to check out is the National Harbor Ferris wheel.
