We had the good fortune of connecting with Zinnia (Nia) Adams and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Zinnia (Nia), what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
I founded Perspectives out of my own experiences with financial challenges. You see, I learned about money through a lot of trial and error. At 17, I became a single mother and faced some tough obstacles right off the bat. I maxed out my credit cards, went through a foreclosure on my first home, and eventually, I had to file for bankruptcy. Rebuilding my finances wasn’t a straightforward journey; it required multiple attempts and a deep dive into my own financial habits. I realized that achieving financial stability was more than just following steps—it was about really understanding the root causes of my financial behaviors, and it certainly wasn’t going to happen overnight.
Most of my journey, I went through on my own. I kept my struggles, especially those about money, to myself because I was ashamed, and I didn’t want to be a burden on anyone else. But going through that made me realize that no one should have to tackle their financial journey alone. That’s why I started Perspectives—to create a safe, judgment-free space where people can have real conversations about money and find the support and resources they need on their path to financial stability.”
Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Perspectives is a financial education firm that specializes in meeting attendees where they are. What sets Perspectives apart is our commitment to creating a supportive environment where conversations about money are open and free from judgment. Our ability to provide practical solutions to transform individuals from struggling and stressed to empowered about their finances. We’re not just teaching financial principles; we’re helping individuals uncover and overcome the internal roadblocks that hold them back financially.
I’m most proud of the genuine transformations we’ve created—watching our clients evolve, eliminate debt and take control of their finances and go on to lead more fulfilling lives. There’s nothing more rewarding than seeing someone gain not only financial stability but also a renewed sense of self-confidence.
It was certainly not easy. The road was filled with challenges, from overcoming personal financial struggles to building a business that truly reflects my vision of financial education. The key to overcoming these obstacles was perseverance, a willingness to learn continuously, and my passion for personal finance.
Along the way, I’ve learned the importance of resilience, being the ambassador for my brand, and the power of vulnerability. Sharing my own story was also a struggle in the beginning but also instrumental in building my brand and inspiring others to their own successes. It’s shown me that when people feel understood and supported, they are more open to learning and changing.
What I want the world to know about Perspectives is that we’re here to change the narrative around money. We want to turn fear and shame into empowerment and enlightenment. Our goal is to ensure that no one has to face their financial journey alone, and we’re here to provide the tools, support, and community needed to make that journey a successful one.”
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Honestly, I just moved to the Atlanta area at the end of 2023 so I’m still learning. I actually would love for your readers to give me suggestions of nice chill spots to visit with Caribbean or R&B vibes. I also love good food so spam me with them also.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My circle and my accountability partner all deserve their flowers. I’ve been in business almost 7 years and they have been there since my business started. Even when I had nobody sign up for workshops. They have encouraged me, supported me, and most importantly held me accountable.
