We had the good fortune of connecting with Linxin Lu and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Linxin, why did you pursue a creative career?
I pursued a career in design because, from a young age, I was fascinated by how packaging could communicate. As a child, I collected precisely designed packages, intrigued by how a simple visual on a small piece of paper could convey a product’s entire story to its audience. As I dived deeper into my studies in advertising, my understanding of design evolved. I came to see it not just as a form of aesthetic expression but as a tool for problem-solving, communicating, and even futuring. Design became my preferred medium for storytelling, connecting, and listening, allowing me to express my thoughts and ideas effectively.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
My artistic journey is shaped by my deep commitment to visual storytelling, a key part of my professional identity. I pride myself on being both a bold creator and a thoughtful observer, tuned into the stories and perspectives around me. My dual capacity to both convey and absorb ideas through design helps me create work that impacts and connects with a wide range of audiences.

The road to my current professional standing has been fraught with challenges, and I think everyone does. In today’s fast-evolving society, where updates occur almost instantaneously, the creative field demands constant innovation and flexibility. Despite these challenges, the essence of design remains unchanged – forging human connections. Whether addressing branding issues, engaging with societal concerns, or exploring personal philosophical questions, my goal is to establish meaningful human connections through my work.

As a designer, I recognize that everyone and everything is in a state of constant change, and I am committed to learning, reflecting, and evolving continually. Design is not just my medium for creating connections; it is my way of interacting with the world. In this role, I am both a speaker and a listener, deeply connected to the human experience.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
During the trip to Atlanta, I’ll make sure to hit up some must-see spots like Ponce City Market on Saturday and take a walk along the Beltline, where you can soak in the iconic skyline of Atlanta. But one place I absolutely must show you is Fellows Cafe in Roswell—it’s my absolute favorite for brunch. There’s something magical about sitting in their backyard, where I can truly unwind. With each sip of latte and gust of wind, I feel like I’m Rémy from Ratatouille, totally immersed in the melody of nature and the flavors of the food with sparkling visuals in my mind. It’s more than just a meal—it’s a moment to refresh the body, to meet your foodie soul, and a perfect escape from the everyday hustle. It’s these simple pleasures that make this place so special to me, and I can’t wait to share that with you.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Firstly, a heartfelt thanks to Savannah College of Art and Design. This journey has not only challenged me to extend my boundaries but also provided invaluable opportunities to connect with the industry I’m pursuing. For me, it is crucial in propelling my professional growth and deepening my understanding of the creative industry.

I also want to give a special shoutout to my perfect teammate, Zhentao Xia. Zhentao has been a rock of support in every project we have tackled together. His relentless drive to push the limits has empowered our team to embrace bold ideas and make brave moves. We significantly contributed to our successful collaboration in <Miro: On The Same Page> in the 2022 International Design Awards. His partnership is deeply valued, as it continuously inspires us to challenge the status quo and achieve new heights together.

Last but certainly not least, I must acknowledge my parents. Their unwavering support and belief in my dreams have been my foundation. They’ve supported every step of my journey, allowing me to pursue my unique path in this competitive industry. Their encouragement has been a constant source of strength as I strive to carve out my own place in the world.
