We had the good fortune of connecting with Aaliyah Palmer and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Aaliyah, is there a quote or affirmation that’s meaningful to you?
“Who you are is defined by what you’re willing to struggle for.” ― Mark Manson
I read this book about a year back and completely fell in love with this quote because to me this quote emphasizes the idea that our identity and character are shaped by the challenges and difficulties we are willing to confront and endure. Our values, priorities, and the things we are willing to to invest time and effort into define who we are as individuals.
For an example, most people want to be successful and make a ton of money but not many people want to go through the repeated failures, unsuccessful businesses, the risk, the uncertainty etc.
What I appreciate about this quote is its focus on the importance of resilience, commitment, and the willingness to face adversity. It encourages a reflection on one’s choices and the recognition that personal growth often involves grappling with challenges. The quote implies that by understanding and embracing the struggles we are willing to undertake, we gain insight into our core values and the essence of our identity.
What should our readers know about your business?
Gemini Beauty Bar brings a touch of glamour and creativity to the world of nail care. As the proud owner Gemini Beauty Bar has turned a passion for success into a thriving business that stands out in the industry.
I understand that every set of nails tells a unique story. What sets me apart is my commitment to personalized services and attention to detail. From classic manicures to intricate nail designs, I ensure that every client leaves with a set of nails that not only looks stunning but also reflects their individual style.
Starting my business wasn’t easy, but I had a vision and a deep love for entrepreneurship. I first started during the pandemic, I knew that I wanted to do something in the cosmetology field but didn’t really know what. I first started off trying to do hair but I quickly realized it wasn’t for me. Then one day I decided to order a nail kit online, before it even got delivered I was already telling everyone that I was going to be a nail tech soon to be taking clients. My own family members laughed and took me as a joke, but I knew it was possible.
Challenges were faced along the way, from maintaining a school/work balance to establishing a client base to navigating the business side of things. However, I embraced each obstacle as an opportunity to learn and grow. Building a brand took dedication, passion, and a commitment to delivering exceptional service.
One of the key lessons I learned on this journey is the importance of adaptability. Staying attuned to industry trends and evolving client preferences has been crucial for keeping myself not just a business owner but a trendsetter in the world of nail art. Customer satisfaction has always been the top priority. I believe that the success of my business lies not only in creating beautiful nails but also in fostering a positive and memorable experience for each client.
My story doesn’t stop here, I want to soon graduate from dental school and open up my own private practice & many more businesses soon to become the first millionaire or even billionaire out of my family.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I grew up in the heart of Atlanta so I would try my best to give her the experiences that I grew up on. Atlanta has MANY different things to do and so many Lowkey spots with outstanding food and vibes. First day I would just have her explore the city with me, we could start off with brunch one of my personal favorites at the moment is toast on Lenox. Later in the day we could visit the BeltLine, I love the belt line it just gives me peace of mind plus its so much art and different cultures within and so many great sit down and grab snack places. It’s overall just a vibe. Next I feel like we would have to attend some type of game or concert it just hits different in ATL. As a tourism spot I just feel like it mandatory to go to the aquarium. The underground is also a great spot even though they redid it its still great. I also would take her to the Waldorf spa for some relaxation as well as many different markets throughout the city.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Firstly I want to give a shoutout and thank my high school teacher Ms.Darian for even recommending me for this interview. For being more than an instructor; you’ve been a mentor, a guide, and a source of inspiration. Your commitment to my education has shaped not just our academic pursuits but our character and aspirations as well. In every lesson, you’ve imparted not just knowledge but a love for learning. Your encouragement has fueled my curiosity, and your unwavering support has been a beacon through challenges.
Secondly my continued success wouldn’t even be manageable without god himself. His wisdom has been my guide, and his grace my comfort. Sometimes I don’t always acknowledge the countless blessings that I often take for granted, but in moments of uncertainty, my faith has given me hope.
Lastly “The Subtle Art of Not Giving a F*ck” is a book that gave me a complete mindset shift away from constant pursuit of happiness and success, suggesting that embracing life’s challenges and choosing meaningful values lead to a more fulfilling existence. The book has given me plenty key points that I still to this day use for real world problems which were prioritizing values, embracing reality, and responsibility & ownership this has caused a positive shift in my mindset as a refreshing perspective on life and personal development.
