We had the good fortune of connecting with Dr.Nikki ZEIGLER and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Dr.Nikki, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
The inception of The HBCU magazine was sparked by a thoughtful recognition of the scarcity of positive news surrounding HBCU entrepreneurs. Seeing a void in the media landscape, I embarked on the journey of creating a platform that would spotlight the accomplishments, resilience, and innovations of individuals within the HBCU community. This venture was propelled by a deep-seated belief in the transformative power of storytelling, with the goal of not merely addressing the lack of representation but actively reshaping the narrative to reflect the vibrancy and success inherent in HBCU entrepreneurship.

In establishing The HBCU magazine, my thought process was guided by a passion for amplifying voices that often go unheard and showcasing the positive impact of HBCU entrepreneurs on a broader scale. The magazine serves as a testament to the rich tapestry of achievements within the HBCU community, contributing to a more comprehensive and uplifting narrative that inspires current and future generations of entrepreneurs.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
The HBCU Magazine is a dynamic platform dedicated to celebrating the accomplishments, stories, and innovations emerging from Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs). It serves as a vibrant source of positive news, spotlighting the achievements of HBCU entrepreneurs and showcasing the diverse talents within these institutions. Through compelling articles, features, and interviews, The HBCU Magazine aims to uplift and amplify the voices of individuals making a significant impact within the HBCU community.

Our magazine goes beyond traditional narratives, providing an inclusive space to highlight the excellence and resilience inherent in HBCU entrepreneurship. Whether it’s profiling successful alumni, sharing groundbreaking initiatives, or exploring innovative projects, The HBCU Magazine is committed to fostering a sense of pride, inspiration, and community among its readers.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
For a captivating 4-hour tour of Atlanta, I would recommend starting with a visit to the historic Martin Luther King Jr. National Historic Site, including the Martin Luther King Jr. Center for Nonviolent Social Change and the King Birth Home. This provides a profound insight into the Civil Rights Movement and honors Dr. King’s legacy.

Next, a stroll through the vibrant neighborhoods of the BeltLine, especially the Ponce City Market, offers a mix of history, culture, and local flavors. You can explore unique shops, enjoy local cuisine, and appreciate the eclectic atmosphere.

To showcase Atlanta’s cultural richness, a stop at the Atlanta Botanical Garden is a delightful choice. The garden’s diverse plant collections and beautiful landscapes make for a tranquil and visually appealing experience.

Finally, concluding the tour at the iconic Piedmont Park provides a perfect blend of relaxation and recreation. Whether walking around the lake, enjoying the city skyline, or simply unwinding in the park’s green spaces, it offers a serene finale to your 4-hour exploration of Atlanta.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
