Meet Aphrose | Neo-Soul/R&B Artist

We had the good fortune of connecting with Aphrose and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Aphrose, what’s the most important thing you’ve done for your children?
As a musician approaching motherhood, I grappled with the concern that becoming a mom would necessitate giving up on my musical career and aspirations. Contrary to my initial fears, the reality unfolded quite differently. While the challenges of new parenthood tested me in numerous ways, it also fueled my determination to demonstrate to my daughter that I hadn’t abandoned my personal and professional goals. Despite the demands of motherhood, I continued to pursue music as my chosen career path.
It’s crucial to me that my daughter witnesses me engaging in activities I am passionate about and fulfilling the calling in my life. My aspiration is to inspire her to dream big and translate those dreams into reality when the time comes. Modeling this perseverance is particularly important for the upcoming generations, as I didn’t encounter many examples of it during my own upbringing.
As the daughter of immigrant parents, I recognize the immense sacrifices they made, working tirelessly, even in jobs they may not have loved, to provide me with the blessed life I lead today. Their dedication allowed me to soar high and live the life of my dreams. I remain deeply grateful to my parents for their unwavering support and love, acknowledging the sacrifices they made for my well-being every day.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I’m a neo-soul/R&B artist hailing from Toronto, Canada, and my lifelong passion for singing has led me to share the stage with remarkable artists like Daniel Caesar, Jessie Reyez, Lee Fields & The Expressions, and more, both as a backup singer and as tour support for Canadian music icons Chantal Kreviazuk & Raine Maida. A significant milestone in my career was the release of my sophomore album, ‘Roses,’ in October 2023, garnering critical acclaim and media coverage from outlets such as Fader, CBC, BBC, BET, and others.
Navigating the path of a music artist is undoubtedly challenging, requiring unwavering determination, drive, and resilience alongside talent. However, I’ve come to realize that pursuing a career in music demands a deep love for the craft, motivating you to overcome obstacles and turn dreams into reality. This aspect of my journey is something I take pride in.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
If you are visiting Toronto (where I am from), there are plenty of amazing places to check out! Here are a few of my fave hangouts and places to take family & friends when they are visiting:
Places:
-Distillery District
-Toronto Islands (you take a short ferry ride to get there)
-CN Tower
-Ripley’s Aquarium
-Queen West
-The Beaches (Queen East)
Food:
-El Catrin (Tacos)
-Pho Metro (in Scarborough)
-Ramen Ishiin
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
My incredible parents remain a radiant source of inspiration, guidance, and positivity throughout my life. I am overwhelmed with love and gratitude toward them for steadfastly supporting me on my musical journey, from childhood to the present.
