We had the good fortune of connecting with NovaKane and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi NovaKane, what’s something about your industry that outsiders are probably unaware of?
You will have a lot of people try to mess with your authenticity. The internet undoubtedly plays a big role in music, so if you don’t align with what’s “trending” or “circulating” you could be considered ‘out of the loop’. I’m here to tell you from experience , if you are sure of yourself and your craft…your path will find you. You’ll never have to present yourself a certain way as long as you live in your truth!
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
My art is very personal to me because I rarely think “ok,I’m an artist…let’s clock in and work” when I create, it’s usually from a place of personal experience or expression. I feel like that alone sets me apart from others because it seems like a lot of modern music answers the question “what does the world want to hear?” I never cared because it’s therapy for ME before anyone else. I’m most proud of the stages I’ve touched thus far in my career. The most notable to me were the Georgia World Congress Center and the Georgia International Convention Center. Performing on those stages were proof to me the the work I’ve been putting in for about 10 years weren’t in vain. Of course it was a challenge to get to where I am today. The only thing I can say to that is that sometimes the world’s rejection is God’s redirection. I’ll be here for quite a while, so get used to seeing me and my name.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I’m not really the type of person for “outside”spots , I’m the type to enjoy being inside with the people I love , watching our favorite movies/videos/podcasts. What I can say is,checkout Edgewood. It’s something for everyone there!
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I’ve had many influences in my life that have shaped me to the person I am today. I believe the most notable (aside from my mother) would have to be my first two music teachers. My elementary school band teacher, Ms.Momen, was the first to put a brass instrument in my hands. Without her fundamentals, I probably wouldn’t have went on to be in band , continuing my music pathway into middle school. My second influence would have to be my middle school band teacher Ms.Petty (I love you girl!) She really pushed me to my potential and polished my abilities to read music. She also allowed me to express myself with my own flavor on her grand piano ….when I was supposed to be unpacking my trumpet. Shoutout to you Ms. P, you’ve impacted my life more than you could EVER know.
