We had the good fortune of connecting with DR. Ebonee Gresham and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi DR. Ebonee, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
For me, it means everything to become a first generation entrepreneur. Being that I was not taught by my mother to be an entreprenuer. We were taught to work a 9-5 for 40-50 years and then retire with a 401k at 65-75 years of age.
Learning the pros and cons of becoming an entrepreneur increased my curoisity, and like with anything else that I desired in life, I went for it- and took the risk on myself and my business venture. After being wrongfully termininated from an executive corporate position, which I had given over 6 years of my life to, I I knew then that I would never give anyone the power to take my freedom, my time with my family, put a cap on my worth (salary), nor terminate me whenever they feel like it; I then decided to became my own BOSS!
Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
Being an entreprenuer is not for the weak at heart. What sets me apart from others is that I was built for this. As a teenage mother, once single mother living in poverty and homeless with my at the time 6 kids, my core principles, standards and ethic is just of another level. I manifest what I want and go for it with great determination, will power, grit and most importanly faith and prayer.
I have overcome challeges by just being real with myself and not trying to impersonate anyone else. Everyone’s journey is different, and you must come to terms with that. All of my trials, tribulations, and set backs- all set me up for where I am today as the CEO of Dr. Ebonee Empowers, LLC, a Doctor of Nursing Practice, Author, Empowerment Speaker, Coach, Entreprenuer and Mother of 10 children. I am most proud of accomplishing my greatest dreams while being a single mother, all while beating the odds and statistics.
The most important lessons that I have learned along the way are 1) keep God first, 2) your children are your everything! 3) run your race at your own pace- you do not have anyone to compete with but yourself! 4) enjoy the process as you see progress.
5) and make no excuses.,,,, just execution!
I want the world to know this about me, I am as real as it gets in a world of impersonators. I share my testimony from a pure heart because I now know that God was taking me through it to take me to it… to the promised land! To encourage, motivate, uplift and empower other women that if I can do it, you can too!
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I would take them to Roc South Kitchen, Two Urban Licks or Toast on Lenox where the food is delectable. Then we would go dancing at Empire Lounge in Snellville, GA.
There is so much to do in Atlanta, but I would definately show them all the good eateries, because the food is the bomb!
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I would like to dedicate this shoutout to “The Grit, The Grind & The Glory”, which is my memoir that is availabe in Barnes & Noble and on Amazon.
