We had the good fortune of connecting with Tamara Johnson and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Tamara, career-wise, where do you want to be in the end?
My goal is to open an all in one three story design house. Where clients can come to shop, design custom apparel, manufacture their private collections, receive alterations and repairs. As well as tech pack consulting.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
Tailored Design is the first black woman owned all in one fashion design house. We offer everything from simple alterations to manufacturing and everything in between. My business has been successful today through the positive experience my clients have received. It’s was definitely not an easy process being a single no and starting a business. However I’ve come to understand that when you dedicate yourself to the things you love in life and career it well give back to you as you give to it. I’m journey has definitely not been easy. But I absolutely love fashion and people so the opportunity to be able to provide a service for people is truly special.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I would take them on a hike to the falls, the botanical gardens, Georgia Aquarium, a bit of shopping in mid town and possibly a concert at the stadium or a show at the Fox Theater.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I would like to give a Shoutout to my mom Jacqueline. I’m so grateful to have her support, encouragement, love and mentorship throughout my lift.
