We had the good fortune of connecting with Tianna D’Chey and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Tianna, how do you define success?
Taking risks play a huge risk in my life. When I first started my business, I took a risk and quit my job at the bank. Last year, I needed a fresh start. I took a risk and moved from Michigan to Georgia. I believe that taking risks are essential to growth. If you stay in the same spot your whole life, where it’s comfortable, you’ll probably never grow and be able to see all that life has to offer. Take that risk and soar!

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I have been in the hair & beauty industry for over ten years. To me, hair is art. It is how we express ourselves. It’s one of the things that makes us individuals. I recently rebranded myself as a loctician and renamed my brand as I Cultivate Locs. After being a braider for 10 years, I fell in love with nurturing and cultivating locs. I’m super excited for this new hair journey! I’m thankful to God for giving me such an amazing gift! As many times I’ve tried to run from my gift/calling, I always end up back here in one way or another. I’ve learned that it’s okay to start over as many times as you need. You don’t have to stick to one thing. Try it all! I’ve done braids, lashes, eyebrows. I don’t put myself in a box.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
It’s so much to do in Atlanta, but I would definitely start with a nice brunch spot! I tried Johnny’s Famous Chicken & Waffles in College Park and it was a whole vibe plus the food was delicious! The Trap Museum is def an experience, we could do a lil day activity with that. I would love to visit Botanical Gardens. At night, we could just explore Midtown and get on the giant ferris wheel.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I’m thankful to my close friends and family for believing in me. My sisters always are in my corner! My sister, Takeya, nominated me for this interview! My sister, Tierra, welcomed me with open arms when I moved to Georgia. My sister, Teshia, always gets me right with the graphic design and business needs! I love them dearly. My clients, they are the reason I do what I do. Especially my clients back home in Michigan! They always show love and have me booked and busy whenever I return. My daughter is my main motivation! I want to be a great example and prove to her that you can do anything you put your mind to.
