We had the good fortune of connecting with Q Gatson and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Q, how has your perspective on work-life balance evolved over time?
As performance trainer and yoga instructor, I found myself constantly running 10-12 hour days. As a father, I found that I was not spending as much time as I would have liked with my son. I was underpaid, overworked, and nowhere near as present as I wanted to be. I asked myself “how could I care for others but not for myself or the ones that need me the most?” It didn’t work and I knew it couldn’t last. I slowly began to create a space where I had the freedom to choose when and how I worked and allowed me to include those closest to me. My business blossomed from the changes I made and I never looked back. Now my work life balance is amazing because they are so intertwined. Work doest feel like work anymore because my family and friends are included in almost everything I do.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
The beautiful thing about being an entrepreneur in the health and fitness space is that it doesn’t feel like a job for me. I get to wake up every day and live a life that I would lead for free. My training set up is primarily online but what sets me apart is the traveling piece. Most every online client I have also has gotten the opportunity to work with me in-person. I run camps all over the country with the primary intention of connecting with my online presence and also take time to do one-on-one sessions with some of my farther clients on request when needed. Connecting with clients personally that have trusted me remotely is such a rewarding experience. Finding and making fitness friends in each area of the country has given me a “hub” of sorts to reach my clients. I can feed my love of traveling and pushing the fitness industry forward through the connections I have made with this set up and I couldn’t ask for anything better.

Connecting in person several times a year has helped me overcome several challenges in the online space and only practicing yoga during private events has helped me keep my practice intentional, meaningful, and manageable.

My brand is one based around going above and beyond to create true holistic wellness for my clients and myself.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
When I have visitors we are always very active. I love hiking so Stone Mountain Park is always on the list. Centennial Park is one of my favorite places to visit as well. Top food places on my list include Atlanta Breakfast Club, Rock’s Chicken and Fries, and Fat Mack’s. Rich and Fit Club is a must on the list of places to attend as well Rich and Fit club has been instrumental in my development and I will always show love to that space.

Last, but certainly not least, we will be skating. I am an avid roller skater so anytime someone visits me we visit Cascade and Sparkle to get our roll on. It’s non-negotiable!

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
My family deserves all the credit for my success. The genuine support they give me has made it easy for me to push forward as a remote trainer and traveling yoga instructor. I travel close to 50% of the year. I have seen scenarios such as mine cause stress under normal work circumstances. As an entrepreneur, the encouragement I get from them has not only kept me in this game, but also pushed me to a point of excelling. My son is typically right beside me and I couldn’t ask for anything better than that. He pushes me to not only be the best person and trainer I can be, but also to keep doing what I am doing to continue delivering the gift of experiences to him.
