We had the good fortune of connecting with Monique Glover and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Monique, how did you come up with the idea for your business?

As someone that has suffered from eczema and problematic skin I’ve always had to be cautious when using different products. The more I learned about harmful chemicals and toxins used in cosmetics and personal care products, the more I was driven to create a brand that offered healthier options.
To provide consumers safe, healthy & cruelty-free products was the core reason for establishing LaMonique Cosmetics.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?

LaMonique Cosmetics is a vitamineral aromatherapy line of cosmetics which is created by using micronized mineral pigments with freeze-dried vitamins and lavender-based aromatherapy. They do not contain any hormone or endocrine disruptors. They are paraben and cruelty-free. The products are entirely gluten free and suitable for those enduring the distress of Celiac Disease.
One of my biggest challenges in the early stages was trying to raise capital. One of the greatest decisions I’ve ever made was to self fund my business. After I created my first physical product I used social media for free promotion to create brand awareness and generate sales. The income generated was then use to create more products for my brand. It was very difficult in the beginning but with persistence anything is possible. I’m proud to be a solopreneur without any other shareholders.
A great lesson that I’ve learned throughout my entrepreneurial journey is to start with a great business plan! It will help to guide you and stay on course. It’s also beneficial to know what type of expenses made be needed in order to to turn your idea into reality.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
There’s so many great things to do and places in Atlanta. A few of my favorites restaurants are Busy Bees Cafe, Buttermilk Kitchen and Johnny’s Chicken and Waffles which also has amazing drinks. The Cocoa Cola Factory tour is really interesting as well as The Apex Museum. I also like to visit small theaters throughout Atlanta to catch up on the latest independent stage plays. As an aspiring actress with a few roles under my belt I think it’s important to support other artists.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I would definitely attribute alot of my success to the assistance I’ve recieved from Meta and The Meta Leaders Boost Network. The program is operated by Meta employees and assists with helping small businesses grow. Being on social media has given visibility and brand awareness to my products.
