Meet Lumber & Ink | Woodworking & Watercolor artists

We had the good fortune of connecting with Lumber & Ink and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Lumber & Ink, is there something you can share with us that those outside of the industry might not be aware of?
How much work goes into every step of getting something made. Designing a product, planning for it, purchasing supplies, and then all the steps to actually getting the product made. Then once you’ve got the product, you’ve still got to get it out there in the world and sell it, whether its through a market, at an in store booth, on social media, on your website, etc. Especially for small businesses like ourselves, you are wearing all the hats, all the time. Its always so disheartening to see people on social media be rude to small businesses, because we know how hard they work to make things happen.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
What sets us apart from others is that every piece we create is all done by hand. All of our wood works are done without any laser or CNC assistance and all of our water colored pieces are hand painted. We like to give our customers lots of new options, so we typically create all new pieces without much repetition.
Getting to this point in our small business wasn’t easy, but we naturally progressed to the product we now sell. It was definitely a process to figure out a happy medium between what we enjoy making and what consistently sells well. Any challenges usually grow from lack of time or supplies. Woods are often difficult to get consistently and at a good price, and making time to create on top of our day jobs and two small kids is fun to navigate.
We want the world to see our brand as having unique pieces and points of view, while providing pieces that can be easily incorporated into everyday life, whether its a tool for their own kitchen or a hand painted card for a loved one.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
We live closer to Macon, so some of our favorite spots include Macon Bagels, Piedmont Brewery & Kitchen, Society Garden, and Reboot, Macon has lots events going on, so there is always something fun to check out. We also spend every Wednesday at Wartown Taphouse in Warner Robins for trivia. Lush Art Paint Studio in Perry is our favorite easy date spot and is always a great time.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
We would like to thank of successes on all of the locals that come out to see and support us at markets. They truly make all the work worth it.
