We had the good fortune of connecting with Jordan Walker and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Jordan, why did you pursue a creative career?
Funny enough, I didn’t always want to. Even as a kid I considered myself to be much more technical than artistic, and wanted to pursue a career in software development. That all changed when I watched the Transformers movie from 2007, starring Shia LaBeouf, for the first time though. After seeing that movie, I became fascinated with how it was possible to bring these giant cartoon robots to life in a way that looked indistinguishable from reality. From then on, I began to focus on any possible steps I could take to one day join the Visual Effects industry that I find myself in now.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I certainly love what I do for work, and I’ve had opportunities to be a part of some fantastic projects, so excitement is never running low. As of right now, I’m most looking forward to watching the two most recent films I had the chance to be a part of, Disney’s live-action The Little Mermaid and Netflix’s Extraction 2.
That being said, I’ve definitely had to face my fair share of challenges while being a part of this industry. The struggle to find work-life balance tends to rear its head quite often. In this industry where saying you worked a late night feels like an understatement, extremely tight deadlines, and having to adapt to constantly evolving technology, it becomes very easy to get consumed by the stress. So remembering to take some time to unplug, reset, and rebalance becomes essential.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Well, with my favorite sport being golf, we absolutely would have to check out TopGolf. It’s a great time for those who have never touched a golf club before all the way up to your scratch golfer, and the drinks make it even better. Other than that, an Atlanta United game is a must. The BeltLine is a great stop, and we couldn’t go the week without stopping by MJQ one night to dance a little.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I absolutely have to mention my parents. They have always been nothing but supportive of any endeavor I chose to pursue. I’d also like to mention a very good friend of mine, Michael Daniels. His way of thinking and overall perspective on life really changed my life’s trajectory for the better.
