We had the good fortune of connecting with Alexis Griffin and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Alexis, can you share a quote or affirmation with us?
My favorite quote is : ” Never let anyone dull your sparkle “. This quote holds such a greater meaning to me than its simplicity. During life, you are going to be faced with hard decisions, failure, judgment, and self-doubt. But you have to make sure that you continue to push hard and grow as an individual and business owner in order to shine.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
Getting where I am today has not been easy. I have had plenty of roadblocks and challenges along the way. From not even knowing where to start, to being able to manage a full-time job, family and business have been one of the hardest things to manage. Oftentimes, we find ourselves so consumed in our work, that we find little time for other joys in our life. But being able to separate our love for our work and our love for our other hobbies can be challenging. I have had many trials and errors with finding the perfect balance. Over time, the balance has gotten better, but it will never be perfect, and that’s okay. Perfection is not something that is meant to be found but worked towards. I want people to know that having a passion is more than just the love for the work, but the dedication. Being able to make sacrifices, hard decisions and tough seasons is the beauty of the journey. I love that those attributes are reflected in my work. Although I strive to be the best that I can be, I am not perfect, but I am real and I love to be able to reflect that throughout my work.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Atlanta is such a fun city to explore. Although I have lived here 28 years, I still find new and fun things to do every time. Some of my favorite places to go are not only in the city, but the surrounding areas as well.
If you are looking for a little bit of nature combined with beautiful art, or places to stop and eat or shop, I would highly recommend the Beltline. The belt line is filled with beautiful street art that really shows the vibrance of the city. In addition, the Atlanta Contemporary is a beautiful Art museum that you can view for free.
In addition, the Beltline offers so many amazing places for food and drinks! Some of my favorites are, New Realm Brewing Company, Krog Street, and Lady Bird.
If you are wanting to enjoy more of the nature side, you can easily rent a bike or scooter and troll your way down the Beltline to some of Atlanta’s amazing parks.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Although I would love to take credit for my own success, I wouldn’t be where I am today without the support of family, friends, strangers, photographers within the community and other photographers around the world. Ashlee Burgess is one of the main people who help flourish my love for photography. She is another photographer within the West Georgia Area who taught me so much about my camera, editing and working with clients. I loved her soul and how she shined it throughout her work and I wanted to be a reflection of her grace.
I also have to shout out a photographer in Germany, named Vicky Bauman, although she probably has no idea I even exist, she has been a huge role model to me and what I aspire to be one day.
My gratitude also goes out to my family and friends who allowed me to use them to build my portfolio. As well as the complete strangers who have become my friends after choosing me to capture their special moments in life behind the lens.
