We had the good fortune of connecting with Abby Shashoua and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Abby, why did you pursue a creative career?
Even as a young girl, I craved creating through play, writing, and art. Exploring theatre, art, and language allowed me to express and challenge myself and evolve as a life-long learner without stringent boundaries or expectations.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
Drawn to baking at a young age through my grandmother’s and parents’ passions for baking (and eating), I found it incredibly satisfying to bake for others. Once diagnosed with Celiac’s Disease in my early twenties, baking took a back seat until my son was born and I was no longer teaching. Learning to bake without gluten (and later animal products) satisfied my desires to create and enjoy foods I thought were beyond my reach due to dietary needs.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My family has always been incredibly supportive!
