We had the good fortune of connecting with Devin Moore and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Devin, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
I created RaceToSpeakUp – an antibullying organization at 14 years old because I wanted to educate the youth about bullying prevention. I didn’t want what happened to me to happen to another kid. The racist bullying that I went through was traumatizing, offensive and hurtful. I knew that I wanted to be a part of the change for the better. Through my RaceToSpeakUp journey, I knew I wanted to tell my bullying story through a children’s book because I wanted to start the antibullying conversation at a young age and teach kids to be upstanders. My first children’s book – Devin Speaks Up! speaks about the importance of being okay with being different and loving who you are, speaking up to someone you trust about being bullied, kindness matters, and encourages kids to be upstanders for each other. It feels incredible to be an advocate, activist and teen author.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
Founder – Race To Speak Up, Inc. Teen Author – Devin Speaks Up!
I am most proud of being part of the positivity in the world. It means everything when a student tells me – Devin Speaks Up! and I will too!
The Race To Speak Up journey has been incredible because of the support and love. I want kids to embrace each others differences not attack them. I do think kindness and respect for one another matters.
The challenges I have seen over the years is a school that says we don’t have bullying issues here – bullying is everywhere and we can’t sweep it under the wrong. Let’s not wait until a student is in high school to start the antibullying conversation. We need to start when they are young.
I want everyone to understand that bullying is going on in every state, every city, every town and we need to work together to prevent it because children are committing suicide, self-harm, drugs, depression, anxiety and bringing weapons to school. I am here to educate about bullying prevention and make this world a safer place.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I want to shoutout my parents, brother Dondre, Humanity Rising, Parents Against Bullying and the Bullying Buddy.
